‘Sucker Punch’: Zack Snyder Confirms Existence of a Director’s Cut!!

Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch is a bit of a divisive film amongst fans. While some love it, others didn’t like the film upon its release. According to Snyder himself, however, a director’s cut of the film does exist.

During a recent interview with Vanity Fair where he broke down his career, Snyder touched on Sucker Punch, noting that working on the film was the first time he really faced having someone try to restructure the film to make it work in a more commercial way.

“[Sucker Punch] was the first time where I really faced, like, a true radical restructuring of the film for it to be more commercial,” Snyder told Vanity Fair. “And there is a director’s cut of that movie that has yet to be released. I’ll say that out loud.”

Snyder went on to talk about the tone of the movie, and described it as a “protest movie,” before addressing some of the problems people had with the film. “It’s a protest movie in a lot of ways. It’s a movie about genre,” Snyder said. “I was asked at the time ‘Why did you dress the girls like that?’ and I’d always go ‘I didn’t dress them like that, you did.’ I always saw it as an indictment of, in some ways, popular culture. I think at the time I was criticized for it being the opposite, like, some sort of sexist rant. It was fun to make and I still love it to this day.”

While Snyder’s comments on the film might not change the opinion some have, it is interesting that another version of the film exists. With the recent success of Snyder’s Justice League cut, perhaps one day fans will fight for his version of Sucker Punch to be released somewhere.
