‘Wonka’: Hugh Grant Joins the Timothée Chalamet led Prequel Movie!!

According to One Take News, Golden Globe winner Hugh Grant has joined Timothée Chalamet in Warner Bros. Pictures’ forthcoming Charlie and the Chocolate Factory prequel Wonka. Further details about his character are still being kept under wraps, but it seems like the British actor might have already started filming his scenes as he was recently spotted on the U.K. set of the musical fantasy film. 

Grant will next be seen in the upcoming Guy Ritchie-Jason Statham film Operation Fortune: Rue de guerre, and in another fantasy film Dungeons & Dragons.

Based on the character created by Roald DahlWonka will focus on a young Willy Wonka and his adventures prior to opening the world’s most famous chocolate factory. The prequel will be led by Timothee Chalamet as a young version of the eccentric Chocolate Factory owner. The character was previously portrayed by Gene Wilder in the iconic 1971 film, and Johnny Depp in the hit 2005 version.

Joining Chalamet are Keegan-Michael KeyOlivia Colman, Sally HawkinsRowan Atkinson, Mathew Baynton, Jim Carter, Tom Davis, Simon Farnaby, Rich Fulcher, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Paterson Joseph, Calah Lane, Colin O’Brien, Matt Lucas, Natasha Rothwell, Rakhee Thakrar, and Ellie White

Wonka is being directed by Paddington‘s Paul King from a screenplay he co-wrote with Simon Farnaby, based on the script by Simon Rich, Simon Stephenson, Jeff Nathanson, and Steven Levenson. Producers are Luke Kelly, and David Heyman through his Heyday Films, with Michael Siegel serving as a producer.

The film is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on March 17, 2023.
