According to producer Jerry Bruckheimer, National Treasure 3 could become reality sooner rather than later.
Bruckheimer recently participated in a Reddit Ask Me Anything thread and was asked about the possibility of working with actor Nicolas Cage again. The legendary producer then revealed that the pair are actively working on a script for a third National Treasure.
“Absolutely. I love Nicolas, he’s a brilliant actor and we are currently working on a script for National Treasure,” said Bruckheimer.
If Bruckheimer is able to get a third film made, it would be a huge resurgence for the series, which is also receiving a Disney+ series that is set within the same universe as the original films. The last film to come out in the action-adventure series, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, was released in 2007. It was a massive success, earning over $450 million at the box office despite receiving mixed reviews.
While Cage seemed a bit unsure of ever seeing himself star in big blockbusters again in various interviews, Cage has once again soared to the top of Hollywood thanks to his roles in films like Pig and the recently released The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, both of which earned him high praise.
