‘Superman Legacy’: David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan Set to Play Clark Kent and Lois Lane!!

A new iteration of the Man of Steel is on his way, as David Corenswet has been cast as Superman in James Gunn‘s Superman: Legacy. The actor will portray the world’s most famous superhero in the upcoming franchise, leading the DC Universe into a new chapter of its history. Added to that, Rachel Brosnahan, star of The Marvelous Ms. Maisel, has been cast as Lois Lane, an intelligent journalist from the Daily Planet and Clark’s love interest. The duo will bring their own voice to the characters, as they star in a story about Superman finding his place in a world where superheroes are already established.

While we know the release date of Superman: Legacy and that it will feature Clark trying to balance his life as a young journalist and as a powerful Kryptonian warrior, very little else has been shared about the upcoming project. The casting process received plenty of attention over the past couple of weeks, with other contenders for the role being Nicholas Hoult and Tom Brittney. When it comes to trying to figure out who would be the best performer suited for the role of Lois, Gunn considered Emma Mackey and Phoebe Dyvenor before deciding to cast Brosnahan. Now that the leading couple has been established, it’s only a matter of time before the film’s antagonist can be found.

Superman was previously played by Henry Cavill in the DC Extended Universe. Introduced in Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel, Cavill portrayed a version of Clark Kent who suffered because, no matter how hard he tried, his actions seemed to cause more problems than they solved. Cavill‘s iteration of the famous hero was even dead for a while, after facing Doomsday during the climactic battle of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. It would take more than a year for the Justice League to revive him, and while he had multiple appearances in the franchise, the character could never find solid ground for his development.

The Future of the DCU Looks Bright

Besides directing Superman: Legacy, James Gunn is also currently the co-president of DC Films. Alongside Peter Safran, the filmmaker will now be an executive in charge of overseeing all the projects in the works from the brand. Legacy will be a part of the first chapter of the saga planned by Gunn and Safran. Called “Gods and Monsters”, the first phase of storytelling will also include films such as Batman: The Brave and the Bold and The Authority, also intended for theatrical release. With David Corenswet at the lead, the future of DC looks brighter than ever.
