‘Blue Beetle’ Director Wants ‘Ted Lasso’ Star as Ted Kord for Future Sequels!!

Blue Beetle director Angel Manuel Soto has revealed that his dream casting choice for Ted Kord is none other than Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis.

Soto talked about his desire for Sudeikis to play Kord in a potential follow-up to the recently released Blue Beetle during an interview with The Digital Fix. For Soto, Sudeikis has always been the correct choice, but ultimately he wants what is best for the film. “My dream cast for Ted Kord has always been Jason Sudeikis,” he said. “But at the end of the day, it’s about who’s best for the character, who loves what we’re trying to do. And who’s willing to see Jaime Reyes’ story continue.”

Ted, who is the second iteration of the Blue Beetle character, does not appear in the film, but his disappearance plays a part in the story. Blue Beetle‘s post-credits scene also could be teasing Kord’s appearance in a future DC Universe film. Jaime is the third and most recent version of the Blue Beetle character, so finding his predecessor could be the natural plot point for a follow-up story.

Will There Be a Blue Beetle Sequel?

Blue Beetle recently released in theaters worldwide, and it hasn’t exactly been roses for the latest DCU film. Early signs point at another DC flop financially, though the film did do fairly well with critics and fans. Whether a sequel will be made or not remains to be seen, but director Soto has some ideas for it, including exploring The Reach, an alien species that often finds itself opposed by Blue Beetle. “You know, where Khaji comes from… Let’s see if we end up beating up The Reach at one point,” Soto said. “For me. It’s expansive and the opportunities are so exciting.”

Filmmaker and DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has put his support behind the character and film, confirming that Blue Beetle will be a part of his DCU future plans. “I can’t wait for audiences to meet Jaime Reyes, who will be an amazing part of the DCU going forward,” Gunn said shortly before Blue Beetle was released.

Blue Beetle is currently playing in theaters worldwide.
