‘Thor 5’: Taika Waititi Won’t Return to Direct Marvel Feature!!

Despite the disastrous opening weekend for The Marvels, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will continue churning out films, and it would make sense for them to go to a reliable fountain of goodwill with which they’ve had success. One of those franchises is undoubtedly Thor, of which the two most recent movies, Ragnarok and Love and Thunder, were huge financial successes. But the director of those movies, Taika Waititi, will not be involved with the making of a Thor 5 as and when it happens.

Speaking with Business Insider, when asked of rumours that pre-production on Thor 5 had begun, Waititi confessed that he wasn’t knowledgeable on the situation, adding that he was not involved with the project which would see Chris Hemsworth return as the titular God of Thunder.

“I wouldn’t know if that’s accurate,” Waititi offered. “I know that I won’t be involved…I’m going to concentrate on these other films that I’ve signed on for.”

What Film is Taika Waititi Making Next?

Waititi went on to explain that, due to the abundance of non-Marvel projects he was currently working on, he simply wouldn’t have the time to get involved. He’s still stewing away on a Star Wars script that remains at the writing stage, while he’s also got a big-screen adaptation of The Incal, the graphic novel by Alejandro Jodorowsky, that he wants to get off the ground, while his next project will be Klara and the Sun, based on the novel by Kazuo Ishiguro.

The story for that one revolves around a robot which is designed for teeangers, to provide them with friendship and prevent them from feelings of heartbreak and loneliness. All of this means the next “six or seven years” are very much taken up for the New Zealander. However, should Marvel press on ahead with another Thor without him, he would hold no ill will, and is more than happy for the franchise to continue without him for now.

“I’d imagine another ‘Thor’ would be a lot sooner than that…But I love Marvel, I love working with them. I love Chris. I would never feel like they are cheating on me. We’re in an open relationship, and it’s like if they want to see other people, I’m happy for that. I’d still get back into bed with them one day.”

Waititi‘s next movie, Next Goal Wins — a true story based on the world’s worst international soccer team — is due for release on November 17. You can buy tickets for the movie here.
