‘Spider-Man Noir’: ‘The Punisher’ Showrunner to Helm Live-Action Series!!

The highly-anticipated Spider-Man Noir live-action series has finally got a showruner in Steve Lightfoot, who will share the responsibilities with previously announced writer Oren Uziel. The series was first announced in February earlier this year for Amazon Prime Video. It’s billed as a story of a “more experienced” hero. Having previously developed and showrun Netflix’s The Punisher series starring Jon Bernthal, a character fans’ are demanding return to the MCU, Lightfoot’s addition to the team will be highly appreciated by the fans.

The series remains untitled yet, however, set in 1930s New York City, the series will follow an older, grittier superhero. The new report in Variety states that “the show will be set in its own universe and the main character will not be Peter Parker.” Fans’ rallied for Spider-Man Noir, after his appearance in Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse, the character was voiced by Nicolas Cage to perfection and will be a great addition to Sony’s catalogue. Previously speaking to Collider in May, the makers of the upcoming series, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, explained that the series was on hold due to the strikes, “But it’s coming along nicely.” The duo further hinted at Cage’s return as Lord coyly said, “There is any chance.”

Lord and Miller this year brought the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which mind-blowingly managed to surpass its Academy Award winning predecessor, in art and story both. The feature saw a massive fanfare and box office success. It will be certainly a front runner in the upcoming awards season for all the efforts that went into it. They developed the upcoming series with Uziel and former Sony executive Amy Pascal.

Uziel is perhaps best known for writing fan favorite features like last year’s Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum and Daniel Radcliff starrer The Lost City, Mortal Combat, The Cloverfield Paradox, 22 Jump Street and the likes. Lightfoot recently directed Charlie Hunnam Starring Shantaram, Hannibal series starring Hugh Dancy, Mads Mikkelsen and Caroline Dhavernas, and Narcos. Put together, Uziel and Lightfoot’s talents are perfect to bring a grittier version of the hero for fans.

The series is the second known project that Sony is developing outside its Spider-Man Universe movies. Another series in works at the moment between Sony and Amazon is Silk: Spider Society from showrunner Angela Kang. On the movie front, we have Madame Web, Kraven the Hunter and Venom 3 to look forward to. No further information has been revealed about the series yet, stay tuned to Collider for future updates.
