Bill Skarsgård is not done with the clown costume and the unnerving smile that makes Pennywise scary. Deadline reports that in the drains of Derry, Skarsgård will return to play Pennywise in Welcome to Derry, a sequel series set years before the events of It and It Chapter 2. Skarsgård is famously known for playing the iconic clown in the global box office hit movies from New Line Cinema.
The series reunites Skarsgård with It creatives. Andy Muschietti directed both films while Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs were co-producers in the second film. They developed the TV series with other It producers, Roy Lee and Dan Lin. Andy Muschietti will direct four of the nine episodes. The story will be based on Stephen King‘s novel, It. Andy and Barbara Muscheitti wrote the story with Fuchs. They will all serve as executive producers alongside Brad Caleb Kane, David Coatsworth, Skarsgård, Shelley Meals, Lee and Lin. Fuchs wrote the script for the first episode and will serve as a co-showrunner with Kane. Already announced cast members include Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, and James Remar.
Where You May Have Seen Bill Skarsgård Before
Most known for his work in film, especially on It, Skarsgård has also done some TV roles, and Welcome to Derry marks his return to TV in 3 years. On TV, he is best known for playing Roman Godfrey in one of the earliest original series from Netflix titled Hemlock Grove. He starred in one episode of Soulmates alongside Nathan Stewart-Jarrett before landing a lead role in Clark as Clark Oloffson. In film, he was recently seen in John Wick Chapter 4 and Boy Kills World. He has a slew of other projects set to come out this year, including The Crow and Nosferatu.
In the Nosferatu remake, Skarsgård plays Count Orlok, and he teased a different vibe about the character. “He’s gross. But it is very sexualized. It’s playing with a sexual fetish about the power of the monster and what that appeal has to you. Hopefully, you’ll get a little bit attracted by it and disgusted by your attraction at the same time,” he said. The Crow is set to premiere in theatres on August 23, 2024, while Nosferatu bows in on Christmas Day.
Welcome to Derry is set to premiere sometime in 2025.
