Zack Snyder has announced yet another expansion into the world of his grand space epic Rebel Moon and it’s coming very soon. Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, the director revealed in a video that a new podcast titled The Seneschal will debut toward the end of the month, complete with a star-studded cast to help flesh out the universe. Across six episodes, it will chronicle the origins of the first Jimmy, the line of robots seen in the film as voiced by Anthony Hopkins, and take place 500 years before the events of A Child of Fire. Episode 1 drops on podcast platforms on July 29.
In the video announcement, Ella Purnell describes the story as “unexpected, devastating, and epic” as it explores how and why the Jimmys were first produced. Originally designed to protect the royals of the Motherworld, they’re forced into helping the Imperium with their dirty work, which by coincidence helps bring Jimmy and Kora (Sofia Boutella) together. The Seneschal takes place before the rebirth of Princess Issa, whom the Jimmys were sworn to protect, when the mad king Ulmer uses the lost prophecy of Issa to sate the masses and cling desperately to power. Reinforcing that, he orders the creation of an unparalleled mechanical warrior knight from two renowned inventors who each played their part in designing the Jimmys and giving them life.
Fresh off of a standout performance in Prime Video‘s smash hit Fallout series, Purnell leads the cast of the new Rebel Moon podcast as Raina, with Lost‘s Naveen Andrews directly opposite her as Grigory. Also on board are a pair of Harry Potter veterans in Alfred Enoch and Jason Isaacs as Adwin and King Ulmer respectively, alongside BAFTA nominee Peter Serafinowicz as Bartholomew. Descriptions of the characters aren’t available yet, but the stars all provide a strong foundation for Snyder‘s latest entry into his new universe, which already boasts plenty of big names.
What Else Is Coming From the World of Rebel Moon?
The Seneschal comes as a bit of a surprise as it arrives shortly before Snyder‘s Rebel Moon director’s cuts hit Netflix on August 2. While the original releases, A Child of Fire and The Scargiver, both received mixed to icy reviews from critics, Snyder has touted the new chapters, Chalice of Blood and Curse of Forgiveness, as much different tonally, with loads of new scenes and a much longer run-time in addition to the R rating. The two titles are meant to be entirely new experiences that give viewers the full, more mature vision the director set out with from the get-go. This will be far from the end though, with more movies being teased, a video game, comics, and so much more to build upon this budding new universe.
The Seneschal will debut its first episode on podcasting platforms on July 29 with new episodes following weekly thereafter. Visit the series’ Spotify page to follow now in preparation for the release.
