One of the most anticipated comic book sequels of all-time just got an exciting new look. The official Joker Folie news X account has unveiled the first clip for Joker: Folie à Deux, which is set to premiere at the Venice International Film Festival before arriving in theaters worldwide in just over one month on October 4. The clip shows Harley Quinn (Lady Gaga) meeting the Joker (Joaquin Phoenix) in Arkham Asylum, as she remarks about how much she enjoyed watching him kill Murray Franklin (Robert De Niro) in the original movie. The sequel will see Phoenix return to the role of Arthur Fleck that won him his first Oscar in 2019, along with Zazie Beetz reprising her role of Sophie Dumond in the sequel, which was written by Scott Silver and directed by Todd Phillips, who also has credit for the screenplay.
Where Joker 2 will be truly different is with its new characters, highlighted most of all by Lady Gaga entering the comic book movie world to play the legendary Harley Quinn. Harley Quinn has long been an associate of the Joker in DC Comics and has appeared in several live-action movies already, being portrayed by the lovely Margot Robbie, but Gaga‘s Harley looks to be entirely different from anything we’ve seen before. Joker: Folie à Deux has also tapped several big names, such as Oscar-nominees Catherine Keener, Brendan Gleeson, and Steve Coogan all coming on board for the sequel, but it’s unclear as of now exactly what role they’ll play in the sequel.

For several years, the first Joker held the title as the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all-time, until just a few weeks ago. Not long after Deadpool & Wolverine premiered, it passed Joker to take this title, despite being Marvel Studios‘ first R-rated film ever in the MCU. The movie sees both Ryan Reynolds‘ Deadpool & Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine make their MCU debut on a multiversal journey packed with action and cameos. Sequels have been known to outperform the originals at times, and Joker 2 has a chance to reclaim the box office title of highest-grossing R-rated movie from Deadpool & Wolverine when it premieres next month.
