Nikolaj Coster-Waldau will always be known for his role as Jaime Lannister in the hit HBO series Game of Thrones, but soon he’ll venture back into the world of swords and horses for another series that’s coming soon. Waldau will star alongside James Norton in King & Conqueror. The upcoming show follows William of Normandy (Coster-Waldau) and Harold of Wessex (Norton), two men who started as allies but were driven into conflict over a desire for the British crown during the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Norton shared the first images from the series on his personal Instagram, and he spoke about the series in an interview with Collider’s Maggie Lovitt earlier this year, praising his cast members — Eddie Marsan, Juliet Stevenson, Emily Beecham, and Clémence Poésy in particular — while also touting the show’s historical accuracy and ability to stay on the path.
However, Norton is more than just the star of the series. He’s also been tapped to executive produce, along with his co-star Coster-Waldau. This will be only the third time in Norton’s career that he’ll receive a producing credit, with the first coming on Rogue Agent, the 2022 spy thriller, and the second coming on Playing Nice, a project he shot before Christmas last year that is expected to premiere in 2025. Norton mentioned in the same interview to Lovitt that the producing credit is especially important to him thanks to his connection with British history, and wanting to ensure that the Battle of Hastings in 1066, which is one of the first things British students ever learn about, was retold truthfully and faithfully, prioritizing historical accuracy over dramatization.

Norton is best known for his role as John Brooke in Greta Gerwig’s Little Woman, but he also recently starred alongside Kingsley Ben-Adir in Bob Marley: One Love, the film about the beloved singer’s life. In addition to King & Conqueror, he’ll also star alongside Jack Gleeson in House of Guinness. As for Coster-Waldau, in addition to his role in Game of Thrones, he’s also known for starring alongside Tom Cruise in Oblivion, and he also featured in the recent horror film, Nightwatch: Demons are Forever, which is currently only streaming on AMC+. Waldau has also been tapped for a role alongside Dane DiLiegro in Cons.
King & Conqueror has not received an official release date, but Norton said that it was “coming soon” in his post and fans remain hopeful it will premiere sometime in 2025. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates on the project and watch Coster-Waldau in Game of Thrones on Max.
