We’re only a couple of months into the year, but 2025 has already been a killer time for horror. The early releases have focused on fresh films like Companion and Heart Eyes, but like last year, the upcoming genre calendar is going to see a great mix of original frights and franchise terrors. The latter of which will include I Know What You Did Last Summer making a blood-soaked comeback. The iconic 90s slasher starred a young Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr.. They’re both set to reprise their respective roles for the legacy sequel and now fans have their first look at Hewitt’s “Final Girl”, Julie James, with a new behind-the-scenes photo.

Posted to director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and Hewitt’s Instagram pages, the mysterious on-set photo is a behind-the-shoulder shot of Julie. She’s looking at some mail. The letter on the top is addressed to her in marker, which could be from our new killer. There’s not much else plot-wise to go off of, but the caption of the post firmly proclaims that “she’s baacccck”. This is the third time Hewitt will be playing Julie. The last time we saw the character was in the franchise’s first sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, in 1998.

However, on the 4th of July weekend, they get into a tragic accident that leads to the group being forced to keep a deadly secret. It may have seemed like they got away with murder at first, but someone knows what they did. The very next summer, they set out to kill them one by one. There hasn’t been a film in the franchise since the 2006 direct-to-video sequel I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer. Since then, the franchise has been kept alive by the short-lived 2021 Amazon Prime Video series that was canceled after one season.
