‘Oppenheimer’ Re-Releases in IMAX Theaters Tomorrow!!

Fans of the highest-grossing World War II film of 2023 are about to end the month on the finest note, and it couldn’t have come at a better time! Oppenheimer, written, produced, and directed by Christopher Nolan, is returning to theaters in less than 48 hours —but there’s a catch. The movie will only be playing in IMAX locations, with screenings beginning on Friday, February 28, ComicBook reports.

Tickets are currently up for pre-order on the official IMAX website alongside a comprehensive list of participating theaters, so you can easily find a location closest to you. Furthermore, tickets for showtimes of digital and 70MM screenings are available on the site, but only three theaters in the U.S. are showing Oppenheimer in 70MM.

To date, Oppenheimer is regarded as one of Nolan’s most notable films of all time and has since earned critical acclaim following its debut. The biographical production first showed at Le Grand Rex in Paris on July 11, 2023, before hitting theaters in the U.S. and the U.K. on July 21. It had a pretty impressive release, grossing over $976 million worldwide, becoming the third-highest-grossing film of 2023 as well as the highest-grossing biographical film and the third-highest-grossing R-rated film of all time.

‘Oppenheimer’ Is Worth Re-watching!

Fans will recall that Oppenheimer had a concurrent release with Warner Bros. and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, prompting the 2023 summer trend “Barbenheimer.” This encouraged viewers to see both films as a double feature, which also contributed to their success. Not only did Oppenheimer do well at the box office, but it was also a champion at major awards ceremonies, including the 96th Academy Awards, where it was nominated for thirteen awards and won seven. Among its Oscar wins are Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor (Cillian Murphy), and Best Supporting Actor (Robert Downey Jr.).

As the title implies, Oppenheimer chronicles the life of the American theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, who helped develop the first nuclear weapons during World War II. It is an adaptation of Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin’s 2005 biography American Prometheus, featuring a brilliant ensemble cast led by Murphy as the title character. He was joined by Downey Jr. as the United States Atomic Energy Commission member Lewis Strauss; Emily Blunt as Katherine “Kitty” Oppenheimer; Matt Damon as Gen. Leslie Groves; Florence Pugh as Oppenheimer’s love interest Jean Tatlock; Josh Hartnett as Nobel-winning nuclear physicist Ernest Lawrence; Casey Affleck as Boris Pash; Rami Malek as David L. Hill; and Kenneth Branagh as Niels Bohr.

Oppenheimer will return to theaters beginning Friday, February 28.
