Only Murders in the Building has just made the first key addition to its cast for its new season. Keegan-Michael Key will join the murder mystery comedy in a recurring role for its upcoming fifth season. Deadline reports that Key‘s role is being kept under wraps for now.
Key is the first guest cast member announced for the latest season of the Hulu series, which began production on its fifth season this week. In Key, they have a comedy veteran with a solid resume. He met Jordan Peele when they were both cast on Fox sketch comedy series Mad TV. The two created, wrote, and starred on the Comedy Central series Key & Peele, which launched them both to comedy stardom. Since going solo, he’s starred on the series Friends From College, Reboot, and Schmigadoon! He has also found success in voice acting, lending his voice to Toad in The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Bumblebee in Transformers One. He’ll next be seen in Play Dirty, Shane Black‘s adaptation of Donald Westlake‘s novel The Hunter, alongside Mark Wahlberg and LaKeith Stanfield.
What Do We Know About Season 5 of ‘Only Murders in the Building’?
Season four of Only Murders in the Building saw the intrepid trio of Charles Haden-Savage (Steve Martin), Oliver Putnam (Martin Short), and Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez) leave the cozy confines of the Arconia apartment building for Hollywood, both to deal with an upcoming movie adaptation of their podcast and to solve the murder of Charles’ longtime confidante and stunt double, Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch). Eventually, they discovered that the murderer was Rex Bailey (Jin Ha), Sazz’ onetime stunt protégé who’d stolen her script for the movie and passed it off as his own. However, no sooner did that murder come off the books than another one arose; Lester (Teddy Coluca), the Arconia’s doorman, was found dead in the building’s courtyard fountain the day after Oliver’s wedding to actor Loretta Durkin (Meryl Streep). In addition to that, the trio was also approached by Sofia Caccimelio (Téa Leoni), who wanted them to solve the disappearance of her husband: Nicky Caccimelio, the dry-cleaning king of New York. How do the two cases connect? You’ll have to tune in later this year when the fifth season of Only Murders in the Building premieres on Hulu.
Since its premiere in 2021, Only Murders in the Building has been hailed by audiences and critics alike. Martin Short was recently rewarded for his acclaimed performance on the series with a Screen Actors’ Guild Award; his first, at the age of 74.
Only Murders in the Building‘s fifth season is now in production; it will premiere later this year on Hulu.
