It looks like The Summer I Turned Pretty is all set to wind up after its third installment — and rightly so because each installment of the show draws from one of the novels from Jenny Han’s book trilogy. The final installment of the show, The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3, therefore, will premiere in July 2025 and will have a total of 11 episodes. The exact release date, however, is not yet unveiled.
It was already previously announced that the show would be back for another installment, but Prime Video has recently made it official that this is going to be the final season of the show. There’s also a new teaser art for The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 featuring Lola Tung (Belly), donning a beautiful yellow dress, with a text at the bottom that says, “We’ll Always Have Summer.”
Based on Han’s bestselling novel, The Summer I Turned Pretty is a summer-based coming-of-age story following Isabel “Belly” Conklin (Tung) as she spends her annual family vacation at Cousins Beach. Across the warm, sun-drenched months, Belly finds herself at the heart of a love triangle with brothers Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno). By the end of Season 2, Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah band together to save Susannah’s beach house from being sold by Aunt Julia (Kyra Sedgwick). The deal, however, ultimately falls through, and the kids retain the cherished home. The upcoming season, therefore, will likely allow viewers to make sense of Belly’s evolving feelings, and how the trio navigates life post-high school.
There Was No Point in Dragging the Story Anymore
Since the series has religiously followed the books up until now, it was already expected that the show would be ending soon. However, because a confirmation had not come through yet — there was a little possibility for the show to perhaps get another installment somehow.
However, it looks like the showrunners have figured out the right way to achieve that without dragging the story — the TSITP Season 1 and Season 2 comprised of seven and eight episodes each, respectively. But now TSITP Season 3 is set for 11 episodes in total — which is a relatively higher episode count and will hopefully allow the creators to sum up the coming-of-age story well!
The Summer I Turned Pretty’s novels already had a cult-following, and evidently the show itself proved to be an immediate success when Season 1 launched in summer 2022 — it quickly secured the top spot on Prime Video during its debut weekend. A year later, TSITP Season 2 arrived in summer 2023 and far exceeded its predecessor’s performance, and more than doubled the show’s viewership within its first three days!
TSITP is led by Jenny Han and Sarah Kucserka as project showrunners and executive producers. They’re joined by Karen Rosenfelt, Paul Lee, Hope Hartman, and Mads Hansen for wiip. As of now, the third and final installment of The Summer I Turned Pretty doesn’t have a release date but it will be released sometime in July, 2025.
