John Leguizamo recently opened up with a new Encanto 2 update, revealing what fans might be able to expect from the sequel to Disney’s hit 2021 musical.
What is the latest Encanto 2 update?
In a recent interview with People during an appearance at the opening night for Buena Vista Social Club on Broadway, Leguizamo — who played Bruno in the first film — said that he would love to see a sequel, joking that he’d love to see the movie focus all around his character, who infamously wasn’t talked about much in the original.
“I’m also waiting for an Encanto 2 when all we do is talk about Bruno,” Leguizamo joked, before revealing that Disney is currently working on a second film. “I’m calling them every day saying ‘When is No. 2 coming?’ They’re trying to come up with the storyline. They’re working on it.”
While no official announcement for an Encanto 2 has been made by Disney yet, it would be a bit shocking to not see one happen eventually. The movie was a massive success when it debuted in 2021, grossing more than $260 million at the box office and seeing even more success outside of the theater, where the merchandise for the movie became incredibly popular.
The soundtrack for the film was also extremely successful, with the song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” becoming Disney’s longest-reigning chart-topper in US Billboard Hot 100 history. The world of Encanto is set to expand into the real world as well, with Disney announcing that a theme park attraction based on the film will be opening in Disney’s Animal Kingdom sometime in 2027.
