New ‘Looney Tunes,’ ‘Flintstones,’ and ‘Tom & Jerry’ Animated Movies are in the Works!!

After such an upsetting March for Looney Tunes fans, thanks to Warner Bros., the Animation sector of the company appears to have amazing news, not just for the acclaimed franchise but also for two more classics. During their presentation as part of CinemaCon 2025, it was announced that new animated movies based on Looney Tunes, The Flintstones, and Tom and Jerry are now in the works. Unfortunately, not many details have been revealed yet, but fans can expect some in due time.

This comes days after Warner Bros. disclosed their plans to tear down Building 131, the historic building that once stored Looney Tunes classic shorts and cartoons. The demolition was said to make room for the company’s many HBO showsfilming on their famous lot. That’s not all WB did in March! Not long before the demolition, news circulated about their intentions to remove most of the Looney Tunes programming from Max, including the same original shorts.

While all that happened, The Day the Earth Blew Up, the latest Looney Tunes animated film, was doing quite well in theaters after its wide release on March 14. At the end of last month, it had grossed $8.2 million in the U.S. and Canada and $2.4 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of $10.6 million. Even critics have lauded the sci-fi comedy, with it currently holding an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Plus, the website’s consensus reads:

“Restoring much of Looney Tunes’ quintessential charm with a daffy dose of high energy and inventive gags, The Day the Earth Blew Up goes to show that these iconic characters remain evergreen fun.”

These New WB Animated Movies Are Not Launching Anytime Soon

Like Looney Tunes has a recent animated movie, Tom and Jerry also does, but a few years older. In February 2021, a live-action animated comedy based on the beloved characters was released, marking the franchise’s second theatrical film. It was directed by Tim Story from a screenplay by Kevin Costello and starring Chloë Grace Moretz, Michael Peña, Colin Jost, Rob Delaney and Ken Jeong.

As for The Flintstones, an animated film has been in development for quite some time. Warner Bros. Animation has been making multiple attempts to bring the prehistoric family back, with one canceled project being an attempted adult-oriented version helmed by Seth MacFarlane. Meanwhile, Meet the Flintstones, the franchise’s upcoming feature film is now in the works from The Super Mario Bros. Movie directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic.
