The classic psychological thriller Darr (1993), starring Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla, and Sunny Deol, is set for a theatrical re-release on April 4. Yash Raj Films (YRF), the film’s official production house, announced the news on Thursday.
Sharing the film’s poster, YRF captioned the announcement, “Experience this iconic tale on the big screen again! #Darr re-releasing in cinemas tomorrow. Book your tickets now.”
Released in 1993, Darr is a psychological thriller directed by Yash Chopra. The film follows Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan), whose obsessive love for Kiran (Juhi Chawla) turns dangerous. Kiran, engaged to naval officer Sunil (Sunny Deol), becomes the target of Rahul’s fixation, leading to intense and gripping confrontations.
The film’s supporting cast includes Anupam Kher, Tanvi Azmi, and Dalip Tahil. Written by Honey Irani and produced under Yash Raj Films, Darr is renowned for its haunting soundtrack by Shiv-Hari, featuring iconic songs like Jaadu Teri Nazar and Tu Mere Saamne.
The film was a massive success, lauded for its gripping narrative, Shah Rukh Khan’s chilling portrayal of an obsessive lover, and Yash Chopra’s stylish direction. While it captivated audiences with its suspense and performances, Darr also sparked debates about romanticizing obsession. Despite the controversy, it solidified Shah Rukh Khan’s superstardom and remains one of Bollywood’s most memorable thrillers.
