Sarah Michelle Gellar fans who are still riding the high of her impending return as Buffy Summers in the revamped Buffy the Vampire Slayer series, will be thrilled to know that the actress has yet another TV project on the way. According to Deadline, the actress has signed on to star in the adaptation of Emma Rosenblum’s bestselling novel, Bad Summer People. Previously holding credits on shows like Dead to Me and No Good Deed, scribe Cara DiPaolo has signed on to bring the story from page to screen. On top of leading the cast, Gellar will also executive produce alongside DiPaolo, Riva Marker, Deanna Barillari, and JoAnne Colonna, while Linden Productions (Family Switch) and A + E Studios (The Lincoln Lawyer) will produce. If you were hoping for some information about where and when you can plan to see Gellar’s latest television takeover, that news will come down the line.
If you love HBO’s The White Lotus, the description of Bad Summer People suggests that you might find some rather intriguing parallels between the two. Off the coast of Long Island, New York is a magical place called Fire Island, with the fictional events of Rosenblum’s book taking place in the island’s town of Salcombe. The quiet community is rocked to its core after a body is found on the side of the boardwalk. The season will uncover the intricate relationships between the neighbors as they try to uncover who the killer amongst them is. At the center of it all are best friends and part-time enemies, Jen Weinstein and Lauren Parker. The duo, along with their respective spouses and children, have long been coming to the island every summer, but this year will be very different. Gellar’s casting has yet to be revealed, but we would assume she’ll be playing either Jen or Lauren and using the snark, manipulation, and wit that she learned during her time as Kathryn Merteuil in Roger Kumble’s cult-classic, Cruel Intentions.
Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Tidal Wave Return To TV
There was a time in life back in the late ‘90s and early aughts when it felt like Gellar was in everything. Of course, there was her seven-season tenure as the titular butt-kicker in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and then cinematic roles in classics like the aforementioned Cruel Intentions, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Scream 2, Scooby-Doo and The Grudge. But, by the late 2000s, she took a major step out of the spotlight to focus on family life with her equally famous hubby, Freddie Prinze Jr. Now, both spouses are getting back into the game, with Gellar making her grand return in the short-lived Paramount+ series Wolf Pack and Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s Netflix movie, Do Revenge. More recently, the actress has found herself as a cast member in Paramount+’s smash-hit prequel production, Dexter: Original Sin, and has also made headlines through the big reveal that Buffy the Vampire Slayer is making its way back onto our screens. Nature is healing!
