In just over one week, Michael B. Jordan will star opposite Michael B. Jordan (himself) in Sinners, a horror film that marks his latest team-up with filmmaker Ryan Coogler. Clearly, Jordan must have liked the experience that he had making a film in the spooky-scary genre as Deadline announces that his Outlier Society production company has won the rights to Christopher Golden’s The House of Last Resort. The New York Times bestseller is a story about dark secrets kept hidden in the shadows by a small Italian town before a new set of neighbors move in. The title is the latest to join the lineup at Outlier Society, following suit with other highly-anticipated productions that include Fourth Wing.
Although The House of Last Resort has only been on shelves for just over one year, it has already picked up a dedicated following of readers. The tale centers around an American couple, Tommy and Kate, who pack up their lives and relocate to a small town in the hills of Sicily. The choice to move is a no-brainer thanks to the fact that Tommy’s grandparents live close by and the town’s mayor is offering up abandoned homes to foreigners for a scary cheap price in hopes of breathing life back into the village. At first, it seems like a dream scenario — something right out of a movie. But, as with all things that are too good to be true, Tommy and Kate soon realize there’s a darker side to the mayor’s plans and that their house may very well be haunted thanks to its undisclosed history.
Fans of Golden’s writing will also know him as the author behind such favorites as All Hallows, Road of Bones, and The Ghosts of Who You Were. Keeping a close eye on how his beloved novel is given the cinematic makeover, the author will also pen the adaptation for The House of Last Resort. It won’t be his first time doing so, either, as the Bram Stoker and Shirley Jackson Award-winner previously provided the screenplay for Hellboy: The Crooked Man. Outlier Society’s Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo will produce, with Golden and Pete Donaldson under the Donaldson Media banner.
What Else Does Michael B. Jordan Have On the Way?
Jordan is currently coming off a string of hits, after celebrating the massive success of 2023’s Creed III, which not only saw the actor star as the titular boxer, but also served as his feature-length directorial debut. As mentioned at the top, he undertook the role of a lifetime when he signed on to star alongside himself in Coogler’s Sinners — a period piece action flick that involves some bloodthirsty vampires.
