Add another star to the Only Murders in the Building suspect list. Booksmart star Beanie Feldstein is joining the Hulu comedy mystery series for its upcoming fifth season. Deadline reports that Feldstein will recur on the series, but her role is being kept under wraps for now.
Feldstein is the latest big name to join the star-studded series, which stars Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez as a mismatched trio of podcasters and amateur sleuths who find themselves solving a series of murders in their ritzy Manhattan apartment complex. Feldstein broke out as a control-freak high-school senior trying to cut loose in the 2019 comedy Booksmart; her performance netted her a Golden Globe nomination. She has subsequently starred in The Humans and Drive-Away Dolls, recurred on What We Do in the Shadows, voiced the title character in Apple TV+‘s Harriet the Spy, and starred as Monica Lewinsky in the third season of American Crime Story. She will appear in Richard Linklater‘s adaptation of Merrily We Roll Along, which will be filmed over the course of several years, and will lend her voice to the animated film Tangles.
What Do We Know About Season 5 of ‘Only Murders in the Building’?
As is now tradition for the series, Only Murders in the Building teased its upcoming season in its season finale. Last season’s final episode saw our trio of heroes solve the murder of Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch), the longtime stunt double and confidante of Charles Haden-Savage (Martin), and also narrowly escape death at the hands of her murderer, would-be screenwriter Rex Bailey (Jin Ha). Once that was settled, they attended the wedding of Oliver Putnam (Short) and Loretta Durkin (Meryl Streep) in the Arconia apartment building’s courtyard…only to discover the corpse of Arconia doorman Lester (Teddy Coluca) in the fountain. Who killed Teddy? And what was that murder’s connection to Nicky “The Neck” Caccimelio, the dry cleaning king of Brooklyn, whose wife Sofia (Téa Leoni) asked the trio to solve his disappearance? Leoni will be guest-starring next season, as will Jermaine Fowler, Renée Zellweger, Christoph Waltz, Keegan-Michael Key, and Logan Lerman.
Created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman (Grace and Frankie), Only Murders in the Building debuted on Hulu in 2021 and has been a solid critical hit. Last year, the cast won Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
The fifth season of Only Murders in the Building is now in production: no release date has yet been announced.
