Apple TV+ has unveiled the first image from Smoke, the upcoming drama series starring Taron Egerton and Jurnee Smollett. The first two episodes of the gritty crime drama will premiere on June 27, with one episode following weekly every Friday until the show concludes in an epic finale on August 8. Inspired by true events, Smoke tells the story of a troubled detective and an enigmatic arson investigator hot on the trail of two serial arsonists. The series is based on the acclaimed podcast Firebug, which was previously believed to be the title of the show until this latest announcement. Smoke was written and created for television by Dennis Lehane, who will also produce. John Leguizamo has also been cast in an undisclosed role in the show.
Taron Egerton stars in the show as lead arson investigator Dave Gudsen, and Emmy Award-nominee Jurnee Smollett will feature as the police detective Michelle Calderone. Rafe Spall, best known for his roles in The Big Short and The Life of Pi, will also star in Smoke, alongside Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine (The Lincoln Lawyer), Hannah Emily Anderson (X-Men: Dark Phoenix), Anna Chlumsky (Veep), Adina Porter (American Horror Story), and Greg Kinnear (As Good as It Gets). Smoke creator Dennis Lehane is a famous novelist best known for his work on Mystic River, Gone Baby Gone, and Shutter Island, all of which were adapted into feature films with stars such as Tim Robbins, Morgan Freeman, and Leonardo DiCaprio in leading roles. Lehane is also famous for writing episodes of The Wire, Boardwalk Empire, The Outsider, and Black Bird.
