There’s a new face moving into the neighborhood. Variety reports that James Marsden is joining the upcoming second season of Your Friends and Neighbors. The Apple TV+ series, which stars Jon Hamm as an ex-financier who turns to crime, premiered last week and has already been renewed for a second season. Marsden will be a regular on the show’s next season; his role is being kept under wraps for now.
Marsden is a hot commodity these days: he was a key player on the Hulu hit Paradise (although, given that the first season revolves around solving his character’s murder, he’s unlikely to return in a significant capacity for its second season), and had a comedy smash on Prime Video with the mockumentary Jury Duty. He has also starred alongside a pack of CG creatures in Paramount‘s Sonic the Hedgehog films, which will be back for a fourth installment in 2027. Marsden is also set to appear in Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice, an upcoming action comedy with Vince Vaughn and Eiza González, and will don the ruby-quartz visor once more in the MCU mega-movie Avengers: Doomsday, returning to his star-making role as the X-Men leader Cyclops.
What Is ‘Your Friends and Neighbors’ About?
Hamm stars as Andrew “Coop” Cooper, a hedge fund manager who finds that he’s no longer able to maintain his expensive lifestyle after his greedy boss (Corbin Bernsen) fires him. His personal life is already a mess: he and his wife Mel (Amanda Peet) split up after she had an affair with his best friend (Mark Tallman), while he’s having an on-and-off friends-with-benefits relationship with his neighbor Sam Levitt (Olivia Munn), who’s going through a divorce herself. He’s also looking after his troubled and free-spirited younger sister Ali (Lena Hall). At loose ends, he starts to burglarize his wealthy neighbors. How far will he go as he pursues this life of crime? And how does he end up in the flash-forward first scene of the series, where he finds himself in a mansion next to a corpse? You’ll have to tune in weekly to Apple TV+ to find out. The series also stars Hoon Lee, Aimee Carrero, Isabel Gravitt, Donovan Colan, and Eunice Bae.
Your Friends & Neighbors is executive produced by Jonathan Tropper, Hamm, Connie Tavel, and Craig Gillespie. Tropper, the creator of Banshee and Warrior, also serves as the series’ showrunner.
Your Friends and Neighbors premieres new episodes weekly on Apple TV+.
