The end is nigh for Blood of Zeus, and bloody it will be. Netflix has released the official trailer for the third and final season of Charley and Vlas Parlapanides‘s Greek mythology adult animated series that teases tragedy, destruction, and ultimately judgement as the Titans return to take control of the world back from Olympus. Following the Season 2 finale that saw Gaia utter the name of Typhon and welcome back the gods’ greatest threat, the stakes are higher than ever for everyone in the world. It’ll once again fall to Heron and his brother Seraphim to become the saviors that can stop the annihilation of the order Zeus had once presided over. The final battle will commence on May 8.
Immediately, Blood of Zeus Season 3 wastes no time striking down the gods as the footage opens with the Olympians, including a revived Heron and Seraphim, standing over the bodies of Ares and Hephaestus as they’re laid to rest. Although being sent to the underworld is far from permanent, it sets the tone for a run of episodes that will be heavy on bloodshed and loss, taking out one of the major power players who fought over the Eleusinian Stone in Season 2. They’re not the only gods who appear to be at death’s door, either. Gaia has had enough of weak deities growing corrupt in times of prosperity and, between Zeus’s philandering, Hera’s war on Olympus, and Hades’s betrayal and murder of Heron, they’ve all earned judgment from Cronus and the rest of the Titans, not to mention the unspeakable beast Typhon. In restoring order, humanity is also caught in the crossfire and subjected to the universe-shaking power the towering beings command. The only way forward is for Olympus to work together, starting with bringing back Heron, but that will be a tough assignment for a group that has constantly clashed thus far.
Also heard in the trailer is a new voice that will be joining the existing cast of stars — Alfred Molina. The Spider-Man 2 villain and three-time Tony nominee is taking on the role of the Titan God of Time, Cronus, and his booming voice rings throughout every scene he appears in. He joins a returning voice cast for the final run that will include Derek Phillips, Jessica Henwick, Jason O’Mara, Elias Toufexis, Adetokumboh M’Cormack, Claudia Christian, Chris Diamantopoulos, Fred Tatasciore, Cissy Jones, and Lara Pulver.
Powerhouse Animation Will Continue Its Reign on Netflix With ‘Blood of Zeus’ Season 3
The Parlapanides brothers and their team have a lot to wrap up with Blood of Zeus‘s final season, between tackling the large-scale war with the Titans and Typhon, reckoning with Heron’s death, and taking more satisfying steps in the relationship between the demi-god and his half-brother Seraphim. They’ll also have to do it in the shadow of what came before, as the series thus far holds a perfect 100% with critics on Rotten Tomatoes. One big aspect in their favor, however, is the return of Powerhouse Animation, which has continued to provide Netflix with some of its best animated series, like Castlevania: Nocturne, Kevin Smith‘s Masters of the Universe series, Skull Island, and Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft. With such a massive battle ahead, this is shaping up to be the biggest season yet for one of the platform’s greatest hits.
