‘Ballard’ Teaser Reveals the ‘Bosch’ Spin-Off!! Check It Out!!

In the wake of the tragically final Bosch: Legacy episode, in which Titus Welliver says a reluctant farewell to our favorite detective, we’ve been given a first look at Maggie Q in the Bosch spin-off, Ballard. Luckily for us, it’s teasing the return of Welliver as Harry Bosch, too. Set to premiere May 29, Ballard picks up as the Bosch: Legacy finale wraps. The teaser shows Ballard rejoining the LAPD at a time when the department’s public image is under fire — and her presence as “the punching bag” doesn’t make it easier. Still, she’s determined to prove herself by diving into a cold case archive, which puts her on a collision course with Bosch himself.

Ballard’s spin-off was ordered last November, and while Legacy ends with Season 3, the Bosch franchise is far from done. The teaser reveals Ballard’s unconventional approach and the uphill battle she faces, including initial resistance from Bosch — who seems more skeptical than supportive at first, despite their successful collaboration in bringing down a serial killer eliminating sex workers in the series finale.

Fans of Michael Connelly’s books may notice some changes. In the novels, Ballard is already an LAPD night shift detective when she and Bosch meet. The series, however, introduces her as a newcomer navigating a department in crisis. Still, the core of her friendship with Bosch looks like it’s going to be intact. As in the books, their relationship is complicated at first but grows into one built on mutual respect. According to the official logline, Bosch will become a key ally when Ballard uncovers a sprawling conspiracy that puts her cold case unit in danger.

Titus Welliver Has a Small Role in ‘Ballard’

Last year, Welliver gave a lengthy interview in which he previewed the upcoming season, and said that he was contracted to do three episodes of Ballard.

They’re shooting the spinoff Ballard with Maggie Q and we introduced her character, Renee Ballard, in our tenth episode of Bosch: Legacy in this season three that’s yet to come out so I imagine they’d want to kind of try to release those within some proximity of each other. I’m actually shooting this week on the first episode. I’m contracted to do three episodes for this first season of Ballard

Ballard premieres on Prime Video on May 29.
