‘Conan O’Brien Must Go’ Season 2 Gets a Trailer!! Check It Out!!

After his successful stint as host of the Oscars, Conan O’Brien Must Go… again. The official trailer for Season 2 of the hit Max travel show finds the comedian, podcast host, and former face of The Tonight Show once again experiencing new cultures, meeting old friends, and continuing to be a lovable fish-out-of-water. This time, however, he has a few celebrity friends joining him for the trip, including Taika Waititi and Javier Bardem, who’ll lend their expertise (willingly or not) as he travels abroad. With the new video also came a May 8 premiere date for the three-episode run, which will conclude on May 22.

The footage opens with O’Brien in the cockpit of a passenger plane preparing for takeoff, teasing the new comedic heights he’s about to reach with Season 2. Like the first season, he’ll be reuniting with some of the interesting people he met through his Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend podcast to experience the food, locales, activities, and everything else from their culture. Although his stated goal is to try and blend in, he stands out like a sore thumb, whether he’s donning a wig and sheep’s hooves or fleeing from an army of Segway riders. This time around, he’ll be getting in touch with nature, going skiing with a man in a Jackson Pollock-like uniform, and doing a lot of singing and dancing. That includes learning to Haka with Waititi in the director’s native New Zealand. With Bardem, he’ll also do a little boating and walk through a museum to get a better feel for history. Amid it all, he’ll have delightful, weird, and awkward interactions with people on the ground as he embraces their way of life.

Where Season 1 took O’Brien to Norway, Thailand, Argentina, and Ireland, Season 2 will not only welcome him to New Zealand but also Spain and Austria. The show is produced by the comedian’s Conaco banner, with Jeff Ross joining him as an executive producer. It’ll be a shorter run than O’Brien‘s first journey around the world, but it won’t be the last, as the premiere comes after Max ordered a third season last month. “Working with Conan and his team on Conan O’Brien Must Go is the trip of a lifetime,” said HBO‘s executive vice president of programming for late night and specials, Nina Rosenstein said at the time. “They’re annoyingly brilliant and no one can make locals feel as deeply uncomfortable in their own country as Conan can… this season in lederhosen.

‘Conan O’Brien Must Go’ Has Been a Delightful Hit for Max

An early Season 3 renewal is reflective of how much of a success Conan O’Brien Must Go has been for Max thus far. Season 1, which premiered last year, earned an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Nonfiction Program and scored strong 94% and 80% ratings from critics and audiences, respectively, on Rotten Tomatoes. Collider‘s Tania Hussein gave it a 9/10 in her review and said the former Simpsons and Saturday Night Live writer’s show “offers an abundance of heart and humor while rendering the comedian’s latest chapter irresistibly captivating and uproariously funny.” For now, Season 2 will look to continue O’Brien‘s run of success after his Academy Awards hosting gig earned the highest ratings for the show in five years and secured him another chance to run the awards next year.

Conan O’Brien Must Go Season 2 kicks off on May 8 on Max. Check out the trailer in the player above.
