‘Ready or Not: Here I Come’: ‘Ready or Not 2’ Adds Sarah Michelle Gellar, Elijah Wood, More!!

Ready or Not: Here I Come! That’s not just a fun thing kids say while playing hide-and-seek. It’s also now the official title for Ready or Not 2. The sequel to the hit 2019 horror comedy from directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Radio Silence) was announced with much anticipation late last year with star Samantha Weaving (The Babysitter) returning alongside genre vet Kathryn Newton (Freaky). Now it’s been revealed that cameras have started rolling on Ready or Not: Here I Come in Toronto with a slew of casting announcements. The latter of which is headlined by slasher icon Sarah Michelle Gellar (I Know What You Did Last Summer) and Elijah Wood (The Monkey).

Reported by Deadline, Gellar and Wood will join the new cast with Shawn Hatosy, Néster Carbonell, Kevin Durand and David Cronenberg. The last name on this list is another standout as Cronenberg has directed such genre classics as The Fly (1986), Scanners and Videodrome. This is also a reunion for Durand, Newton and Radio Silence, who all worked together on last year’s underrated vampire flick Abigail. If that wasn’t enough, Durand and Gellar starred together in Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, where the former took on the role of the infamous Black Knight Ghost. President of Searchlight Pictures, Matthew Greenfield, expressed his excitement, saying:

“We’re beyond excited to make another film with the phenomenal Radio Silence. With Ready or Not: Here I Come, we get to go on another ride with the amazing Samara Weaving, mix in awesome new voices, and bring audiences a fresh take that’s every bit as twisted and fun as the first one. This is for those who’ve been waiting, and those who didn’t see it coming.”

What’s ‘Ready or Not’ About?

Ready or Not follows a young bride on her wedding day named Grace (Weaving) who has married into a rich board game empire. They have a tradition at every wedding to pick a game at random to play as a family. Most of the games are as light as checkers, but Grace picked Hide-and-Seek. This isn’t the harmless children’s version. The in-laws have to find Grace and kill her before sunrise. If they don’t, the Le Domas bloodline will be finished for good. With a killer 89% certified-fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, this is the film that put Radio Silence on the map. With a sharp blend of scream-worthy thrills and gut-busting comedy, Ready or Not let their signature odd-ball style completely out of the box. The original story ended with Grace surviving the night and the La Domas family, so where the sequel will go is anyone’s guess.

Where Can You Stream ‘Ready or Not’?

While Ready or Not: Here I Come doesn’t have a release date or window yet, the original horror comedy is currently streaming on Hulu. In addition to Radio Silence coming back as directors, Guy Busick returned to write the script for the sequel with R. Christopher Murphy. There’s no real shock why this modern gem would be getting another deadly round of hide-and-seek as Ready or Not was a smash hit at the box office. It made $57 million worldwide on a small $6 million budget.
