Get ready to kick your summer off at Cliff House. Milly Alcock is under Julianne Moore‘s spell in the first trailer for Sirens. The new Netflix black comedy miniseries, which also stars Meghann Fahy and Kevin Bacon, will premiere on May 22.
The new trailer is set to the strains of Gotye‘s “Somebody That I Used to Know,” and as it opens, Devon (Fahy, The White Lotus) is finding out that her sister Simone (Alcock, House of the Dragon) has likewise become somebody that she used to know. She’s the new personal assistant for the wealthy Michaela “Kiki” Kell (Moore, Still Alice), and she’s changed: she’s had her matching sisters tattoo lasered off, she’s sharing used gum with her boss, and she’s never mentioned her sister. That’s about to change, as their father (Bill Camp, The Queen’s Gambit) has been diagnosed with dementia, and the addled Simone could only be bothered to send a fruit basket. Now the rough-around-the-edges Devon has invaded the Kell mansion, Cliff House, and she’s not about to leave until she gets her sister back. The miniseries also stars Bacon (The Bondsman) as Kiki’s husband, Peter, and Glenn Howerton (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) as wealthy neighbor Ethan Corbin II.
Who Created ‘Sirens’?
Sirens was created by Molly Smith Metzler, who adapted it from her 2011 play Elemeno Pea. Metzler is a noted playwright and author who also wrote for Shameless, Casual, and Orange Is the New Black before making a splash at Netflix with the 2021 miniseries Maid, which starred Margaret Qualley and Andie MacDowell. In an interview on Netflix‘s Tudum website, she discusses the character dynamic between Moore‘s Kiki and her fanatical assistant, Alcock‘s Simone: “Michaela and Simone are friends. They’re trauma-bonded. They’re codependent. But they also really need something from each other. And what they need from each other shifts throughout the show.” And while Fahy‘s Devon is there to show Simone who she really is, Simone may turn the tables on her: “Devon becomes embarrassed. Simone starts calling out all of Devon’s bad habits, bad relationships, and the way that she mistreats herself.”
Both Fahy and Alcock are set for a big year. Fahy can be seen now in the twisty suspense thriller Drop, and is currently filming The Good Daughter, a miniseries for Peacock. Alcock, meanwhile, will play Kal-El’s cousin Supergirl in this summer’s Superman, before flying solo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow next year.
