‘Ultraman Omega’ Trailer Confirms New ‘Ultraman’ Live-Action Series!! Check It Out!!

This is an excellent week to be an Ultraman fan. The long-running tokusatsu show announced a huge comeback for 2025 with Ultraman Omega, a new entry in the franchise that once again stars the Japanese superhero from the 60s. The best news for fans who are not in Japan, however, is that Ultraman Omega will come with a twist: the series will stream new episodes globally, with the English dub available at launch. A first trailer was unveiled to announce the news, and it revealed that the adventure is set to kick off on July 5.

In the new story, Omega (Shori Kondo) is an alien that accidentally comes to Earth and loses his memory. He quickly realizes that he needs to take a human form and name in order not to stand out and study the new people he meets. However, he is forced into his superhero form when a giant monster suddenly pops up, and the attacker starts to awaken pieces of Omega’s lost memory. He then teams up with a local in order to start a fighting team against the creatures that attack the planet.

The trailer for Ultraman Omega reveals the superhero’s new look and symbol — a red space boomerang that he calls the Omega Slugger. It also teases some of the fights that fans will see in the series, and they keep a clear homage to the original show with practical effects, monsters with elaborate costumes and clever camerawork and production design for the kaiju and Ultraman’s enlarged look.

‘Ultraman’ Was Never Gone

Even though Ultraman is a 60s series that defined an entire generation, a lot of people don’t know that the franchise kept going throughout the years. Ultraman Omega is the 40th overall series in the Ultraman universe, which puts out new entries on a regular basis. Additionally, the Ultraman movie franchise is also alive and well: in the last decade alone, more than a dozen movies were released with the epic superhero in the lead.

A couple of these titles that managed to stand out are Shin Ultraman and Ultraman: Rising. The first one is a reimagining of the original series directed by Shinji Higuchi (Bullet Train Explosion) and written by Hideaki Anno (Neon Genesis Evangelion). The movie has an impressive 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Ultraman: Rising, on the other hand, is a more laid-back adaptation in animated format that was a standout on the Netflix catalog. However, last month one of the directors from the movie gave a disheartening update on the possibility of the start of a new animated franchise.

Ultraman Omega debuts on July 5 with an English dub and in the original Japanese with English subtitles on the franchise’s official YouTube channel. You can check out the trailer above.
