‘Sisu 2’ Sets Year End Release Date!!

We all love a sequel that pops out of nowhere, and for some titles it’s even more exciting when it happens. Back in 2023, Sisu took the world by storm by pairing up John Wick elements with Nazis in World War II — and a dog, of course. Even though it seemed like a one-and-done deal, the potential for more entries in the story was always there. That’s why fans were excited to find out a couple of months ago that Sisu 2 was in development and production is moving lightning-fast: the new installment is set to premiere in theaters on November 21.

Details of Sisu 2 are still kept under wraps, but considering that the war action movie hits theaters in seven months, we’re bound to see a trailer soon. By the end of the first movie, protagonist Aatami (Jorma Tommila) was left in pretty bad shape after fighting his way through a horde of Nazi enemies in order not to lose the huge amount of gold that he happened upon. However, the one-man army is now filthy rich, and we’ll have to see how money will factor into his life. Tommila will return for the sequel, and he will be joined by Richard Brake (Mayor of Kingstown) and Stephen Lang (Avatar: Fire and Ash).

Back when it premiered, Sisu was a standout title at film festivals. When it made it to regular theater screenings, the movie landed a near-perfect 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes. In his review, Collider‘s Ross Bonaime called the movie “bonkers” and praised director Jalmari Helander‘s (Big Game) ability to balance his protagonist’s talent to be “an unstoppable killing machine” and Tommila‘s performance that makes the deadly protagonist come off as “a man just attempting to live through the day.”

‘Sisu’ Director Had Already Hinted At Sequel Plans

Back in 2023, Sisu director Jalmari Helander revealed that he had an idea for Sisu 2 in mind and commented precisely on the fact that the biggest difference will be Aatami’s money. However, he wasn’t too revealing back then — probably because the wheels were already in motion to make the sequel happen. He stated:

“I have an idea of what would happen next. That was one of the biggest challenges when writing it as I didn’t know how the gold will make him happy in the end. So, I decided to end the movie like I did but it would be interesting to see what happens to him when he has all the money in the world as I’m pretty sure it won’t make him happy. Maybe somebody needs his skills again but let’s see.”

The original Sisu centers around a man who finds solid gold in the middle of nowhere during a Nazi occupation in Finland. In order to keep his money and stay alive, he takes on soldiers and kills them mercilessly as he tries to escape them.

Sisu 2 premieres in theaters on November 21. You can stream the first movie on Prime Video.
