‘Art Detectives’ Trailer Teases the New Stephen Moyer led Investigative Series!! Check It Out!!

The art world is a dangerous place to be in Acorn TV‘s new series, Art Detectives. A new trailer for the upcoming crime drama has been released and introduces viewers to Mick Palmer, an art-loving Detective Inspector, played by True Blood star Stephen Moyer, who investigates murders stemming from the world of art and antiques with help from his straight-talking partner, DC Shazia Malik (Nina Singh). Together for the Heritage Crime Unit, they encounter cases of greed, lust, obsession, and revenge that put the former’s eye for forgeries to the test and require them to solve some colorful whodunits. Matters get more complicated, however, as more personal connections get involved in the mysteries at hand.

In the footage, the two new crime solvers meet for the first time, and DI Palmer takes the opportunity to detail his skills in solving “art theft, fraud, forgery.” Everything escalates when a body shows up, though, putting the two on the trail of a murderer. They quickly make it clear that any of the present artists, appreciators, and more could be responsible for the killing, given all the personal vendettas and priceless pieces at stake, from Old Master paintings to Banksy street art, and medieval manuscripts. Another investigation, however, hits closer to home, as Palmer’s charismatic father, Ron (Larry Lamb), a notorious forger, suddenly reappears in his life and is accused of stealing a valuable painting himself. The danger runs high as Palmer and Malik get closer to the truth, promising an exciting watch full of twists, high-society dealings, and messy family history.

As the season unfolds, the two artfully astute partners will investigate “a fake Vermeer, Viking gold, a rare Chinese vase, and items rescued from the Titanic.” Throughout it all, Palmer tries his best to pursue a romantic relationship with a museum curator named Rosa (Sarah Alexander) between an increasingly demanding slate of cases. Behind the series are co-creators and writers Dan Gaster, Will Ing, and Paul Powell, with Emma Goodwin and Kitty Percy penning Episodes 3 and 4, respectively. Adding to the skilled murder mystery team is Jennie Paddon, who brought their experience from Death in Paradise behind the camera as the director for all six episodes.

Where Else Has Moyer Appeared Recently?

Art Detectives will be Moyer‘s second major role on television in recent memory after he appeared in the Sexy Beast prequel series last year for Paramount+. Beyond that, however, he’s also guest-starred in an episode of Elsbeth, marking a reunion with his True Blood co-star Carrie Preston. His time in New York isn’t quite over yet either, as he’ll soon reprise his role for the big Season 2 finale alongside a wide slate of other stars. On the horizon, he’ll be swapping Acorn TV for PBS Masterpiece with the debut of The Forsytes, which is already eyeing a Season 2 ahead of its premiere. A date has yet to be set for the hotly anticipated period drama.
