It’s nice when the lads go for a night out on a Friday, isn’t it? That’s exactly what one of the most star-studded screenings you could imagine at an impromptu time has given us, as Simu Liu and a few mates went down to the pictures for a screening of Thunderbolts*, the latest movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Who did he go with, you ask? We’ll fill you in. First of all, there’s Winston Duke, Paul Rudd and Channing Tatum. Pretty good, right? Anthony Mackie was there too. Captain America likes a good flick, after all. Chris Hemsworth and his giant arms tagged along and, oh, who’s that at the back? It’s Doctor Doom himself, Robert Downey Jr. looking distinctly… unlike Tony Stark.
This sneak peek at the cast of Avengers: Doomsday comes as one of the movies preceding the biggest event film in half a decade opens, and the boys are out supporting their friends in the Thunderbolts* cast, who are most likely having a quick breather before returning to the set of Doomsday, where they actually shot the stinger to Thunderbolts*, as its director Jake Schreier told Collider. It also continues a trend of big stars supporting movies in a bid to get back audiences back into theaters, fronted by Tom Cruise as the King of Movies.
What Is ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ About?
Announced last year at San Diego Comic Con, Anthony and Joe Russo are returning to direct the next two Avengers films: Doomsday and Secret Wars. The film sees the multiverse under siege as Doctor Doom emerges to wreak havoc across various timelines, threatening the very fabric of reality. This convergence draws together heroes from various factions — Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and others —to confront the impending doom.
Alongside the celeb moviegoers you can see above, the film also stars Vanessa Kirby (Fantastic Four: First Steps), Sebastian Stan (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), Letitia Wright (Black Panther), Wyatt Russell (Thunderbolts*), Tenoch Huerta Mejía (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Fantastic Four: First Steps), Florence Pugh (Black Widow), Kelsey Grammer (X-Men), Lewis Pullman (Thunderbolts*), Danny Ramirez (Captain America: Brave New World), Joseph Quinn (Fantastic Four: First Steps), David Harbour (Black Widow), Hannah John-Kamen (Thunderbolts*), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Patrick Stewart (X-Men), Ian McKellen (X-Men), Alan Cumming (X-Men 2), Rebecca Romijn (X-Men), James Marsden (X-Men), and Pedro Pascal (The Fantastic Four: First Steps). And that’s not even all of them.
What Is ‘Thunderbolts’ About?
The film sees Marvel‘s antiheroes Yelena Belova (Pugh), Ghost (John-Kamen), John Walker (Russell), Red Guardian (Harbour), Bucky Barnes (Stan) and Bob (Pullman) forced into working together by Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina. They band together to stop a lethal threat from closer than they think.
Downey Jr. and Hemsworth also took to social media to praise the film, with Downey stating: “Just wow! Dinner and a show with the Old Avengers. So cool, fresh and deep. Big congrats.”
Hemsworth was just as effusive in his praise, adding that he “watched Thunderbolts* last night with the Avengers family and was blown away. Film’s amazing. In cinemas now, don’t miss in.”
Avengers: Doomsday will open in theaters on May 1, 2026. Thunderbolts* is in theaters now.
