‘The Eternaut’ Renewed for Season 2!!

After a tremendously successful release, Netflix has renewed The Eternaut for a second season, which is intended to provide a satisfying close to the riveting plot. On Tuesday, May 6, about a week after Season 1’s premiere, the streamer announced the fantastic news on X with “The Eternaut Season 2 is coming.” It also came days after Deadline had a chat with Netflix’s Latin American programming boss, Francisco ‘Paco’ Ramos, and producer Matías Mosteirin from K&S Productions about their elaborate plans for the new season.

According to Mosteirin, the plan for The Eternaut Season 2 is to wrap the story “in a beautiful way” with a few more episodes than that of the freshman chapter. In his words, “We believe that we will manage to close the whole story in a beautiful way, with probably eight more episodes.” On the other hand, Ramos described the show’s sophomore run as a “very important” one that will “dig into a lot of sci-fi concepts that were just pointed out in Season 1, and they are going to be fully blown.”

Inspired by Héctor Germán Oesterheld and Francisco Solano López’s acclaimed comic book series, The Eternaut debuted on Netflix on Wednesday, April 30, with six episodes and quickly became a hit among both fans and critics alike. It is set in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and follows events after a mysterious snowfall wipes out most of the population. Juan Salvo (Ricardo Darín) and his friends embark on a desperate struggle for survival after escaping the toxic snowfall and must band together with fellow survivors to fight an enemy from another planet.

‘The Eternaut’ Season 2 Will Be Way More Ambitious

With news about the Argentine series’ next season still fresh, eager fans will have to be patient for further details about what’s coming, keeping in mind that the first season took eight months to shoot and had a year of post-production. However, they can expect Bruno Stagnaro, who created and directed Season 1, to return in that capacity for Season 2.

Meanwhile, series exec Mosteirin has noted a major hurdle in developing another season of The Eternaut, which has to do with retaining the atmospheric vibe the team created and which he believes can only be achieved for no more than one extra season. He also explained:

We want to challenge ourselves in the second season just as we challenged ourselves in the first one. We want to go for more, technically and creatively. We want to use all the knowledge we gained to do things on the second season that we didn’t manage to do on the first.”

The Eternaut Season 2 has no premiere date yet, while the first chapter is streaming on Netflix.
