It’s been half a decade, but the wait is almost over for the sequel to 2020’s The Old Guard. On July 2, audiences will pick up with the team of Immortal badasses when The Old Guard 2 kicks and punches its way onto Netflix. To promote the high-octane film’s impending arrival, the streamer has dropped an official poster that gives viewers a peek into the immortal universe of Charlize Theron’s (Mad Max: Fury Road) Andy. Clad in all black, the mercenary can be seen kneeling on the sandy ground while a helicopter flies overhead. Beaten down but not defeated, the warrior has a look in her eye that captures her undying drive to fight for those who need a protector. Clasping her beloved double-headed axe in her hand, the character prepares herself to fight for her life with the words “Eternity Has A Price” scrawled above her.

In the 2020 movie, filmmaker Gina Prince-Bythewood took the Greg Rucka-penned comic book and adapted it into cinematic form. The tale of Theron’s Andy and the rest of the regenerating mercenaries will pick up where the story left off following Booker’s (Matthias Schoenaerts) betrayal and the resurfacing of the mythical and legendary Quynh (Veronica Ngô). Still coming to terms with the fall from immortal to mortal, Andy will experience an incredibly different life in the follow-up when new threats emerge from the shadows all while she and the rest of the team continue to push for a better understanding of their unexplainable healing abilities.

Filling out the remainder of the call sheet are a lineup of fan-favorites from the first movie as well as newcomers, including Marwan Kenzari (Aladdin), Chiwetel Ejiofor (The Life of Chuck), Luca Marinelli (The Eight Mountains), Uma Thurman (Pulp Fiction), and Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians).

Victoria Mahoney’s Vision For ‘The Old Guard 2’

With a Certified Fresh critics’ approval rating of 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, The Old Guard deserves a sequel that can stay true to the original all while standing out on its own. Enter filmmaker Victoria Mahoney, who celebrates her sophomore feature-length production with the film. While chatting with Collider during our Exclusive Preview event, the director teased a storyline filled with action and character growth that would “wonderfully up the ante.”

“It was crucial, our opening action set piece; aesthetically, physiologically, and topographically communicated a distinct state of mind for the Immortals, permitting us to fully counterbalance the aesthetics, physiology and topography of our closing action set piece. Per the duty of a second installment, as witnessed in the fun clip of Charlize hanging off of a live helicopter, it can be said, we strived daily on The Old Guard 2 to wonderfully up the ante.“
