Mark Ruffalo will always be known for his role as Bruce Banner in the MCU and for his four Oscar nominations, but he’s been set to star in an upcoming crime series that just got a riveting first look. Vanity Fair has unveiled the first-look images from Task, the upcoming show that will see Ruffalo star as an FBI agent assigned to lead a task force to end a slew of drug-house robberies. The show comes from scribe Brad Ingelsby, who also created the 2021 series that set the world on fire, Mare of Easttown. Ingelsby has also worked on other projects such as The Way Back (Ben Affleck) and Our Friend (Jason Segel), but Task will mark his first project since the 2021 HBO hit. Task is also set in Pennsylvania, like Mare of Easttown.
Vanity Fair’s first-look images of Task can be found here.
On the other side of Task is Tom Pelphrey, who portrays Robbie Prendergrast, the small-time garbage man who’s behind all the drug-house robberies. Task is focused on much more than just two characters racing against each other in a tale of crime and justice, though. It also pulls back the curtain on both men’s respective pasts, which align more than either would like to believe. Vanity Fair’s first-look piece on the film also likened it to Michael Mann’s classic crime thriller, Heat, which puts an LA detective (Al Pacino) opposite a thief (Robert De Niro). That comparison alone is enough for us. Ingelsby describes it as a visceral “collision course” for both men. To make sure things were handled properly, Ingelsby even brought a real FBI agent on set, as well as the Chester County chief of police, and an advisor who was once part of a biker gang.
Is Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’?
Mark Ruffalo’s name was among those to not be given a chair during the Avengers: Doomsday casting announcement a few weeks ago. But given that he’s been a crucial part of every Avengers film thus far and is alive and well in the MCU, it’s likely he’s one of the stars whose role is being kept under wraps. Ruffalo last appeared in the MCU in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and after the Thunderbolts* post-credits scene teased tension between the New Avengers and the old regime, Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner will almost certainly be siding with his former team.
Task will premiere on Max later this year.
