‘Superman’ Director Confirms He’s Writing An Unannounced DCU Feature!!

The release of Superman is now officially two months away, and writer/director James Gunn is already teasing his next DCU project. Despite being the co-CEO of DC Studios and head of creative decisions — the same role Kevin Feige occupies at Marvel StudiosGunn has also kept up writing and directing duties, both on Superman and other projects like Creature Commandos and Peacemaker Season 2. However, Feige does the job of Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran, which leaves Gunn with a bit more time to have his hand in the creative side of development. Gunn spent the weekend interacting with fans on his personal Threads account, and one patron asked if he had begun working on his next project. Not only did he confirm that he has with a simple yes,” but he also revealed that it’s a brand-new project that has yet to be announced.

Gunn declined to share any details on this new mystery project. However, there’s one thing on everyone’s mind that Gunn could be working on, which is a sequel to Superman. The hype surrounding the debut DCU film has been on the rise since it premiered its first trailer at the end of last year, and also the recently-released sneak peek that played ahead of A Minecraft Movie. Fans are waiting on pins and needles for the next Superman trailer, and Gunn confirmed during one of his interactions this weekend that it’s ready to be released. Gunn also revealed to Collider at a DC event earlier this year that he was writing his next DCU project that he also plans to direct, and given he won’t be writing and directing but a select few DCU projects, it’s likely these two projects are one and the same.

Is Henry Cavill in the New ‘Superman’ Movie?

Henry Cavill will not star as Clark Kent in James Gunn’s Superman. The role has been taken over by David Corenswet, who previously appeared in We Own This City, Pearl, and Twisters. Gunn spoke not long ago about what made Corenswet the right pick to play the new Man of Steel, citing that he’s a “simple man in complicated times.” Starring alongside Corenswet in Superman is Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, who takes over the role from Amy Adams. The role of Perry White will be played by Wendell Pierce instead of Laurence Fishburne. Zack Snyder is not involved in the new Superman movie in any capacity.

Superman flies into theaters on July 11.
