Marvel’s favorite whiskey-swilling, no-nonsense PI is officially back. Krysten Ritter made her return to the Marvel spotlight official during Disney’s 2025 upfront presentation in New York, taking the stage alongside Daredevil: Born Again star Charlie Cox to confirm her comeback as Jessica Jones. Ritter will join the second season of the Disney+ series, reprising the iconic role she first played in 2015 for Netflix.
“It’s so great to be back, returning to Jessica after three seasons and The Defenders and now joining the MCU,” Ritter said onstage. “I’m so excited to bring back this iconic character, and without giving too much away, there is much more in store for Jessica Jones. This is going to be an incredible season!”
Who Is Jessica Jones?
It marks the first time Ritter has portrayed the character since the Netflix-Marvel partnership ended in 2019. For three seasons, Jessica Jones stood out among the lineup as a dark and emotionally grounded character drama, with Ritter’s performance widely praised for its grit, complexity, and raw power compared to the normal superhero characters. As a private investigator with super strength — and a tendency to solve her problems with sarcasm or fists — Jessica Jones carved out a unique lane in the superhero TV boom, and fans ate it up.
Jones was part of the original Netflix Marvel lineup that also included Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and the crossover miniseries The Defenders. Following their cancellation as Disney began shifting its Marvel content exclusively to Disney+, a contractual clause kept the characters off other platforms for two years. That lockout has long since expired, and Marvel has been quietly reassembling the pieces.
Cox made his MCU re-debut in Spider-Man: No Way Home, followed by a full return in Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+. Vincent D’Onofrio returned as Kingpin, Jon Bernthal reprised his role as The Punisher, and now Ritter’s Jones is officially joining the party.
Ritter didn’t reveal specific plot details about Jones’ role in Season 2 of Born Again, but the fact that Marvel chose to announce it in such high-profile fashion suggests she’s more than just a cameo. With Born Again already featuring more of Bernthal’s Punisher, fans are bracing for a gritty, street-level Marvel team-up unlike anything in the MCU’s more cosmic, multiversal recent history.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 is on Disney+ now. Production is officially underway on Season 2.
