‘Fear Street’: New Posters Nod Towards Classic Horrors!! Check It Out!!

Even though we’ve barely reached the summer movie season yet, it’s been another killer year for horror. Particularly for slashers. Heart Eyes has already carved up Valentine’s Day, but later this month, Fear Street: Prom Queen will turn the end of the school year blood-red. The R.L. Stine Netflix film is returning genre fans to the cursed town of Shadyside. Now, the film is paying tribute to high school slashers’ past with some new deadly posters.

The two new Prom Queen posters honor 1976’s Brian De Palma adaptation of Carrie and 1980’s Prom Night, the latter of which starred horror icon Jamie Lee Curtis. The Carrie-inspired poster mirrors the two-image classic design, showing the before and bloody aftermath of star India Fowler at Shadyside’s Prom. The tagline, “If You’re Hungry For Horror… Come To Shadyside’s Senior Prom” is also very similar to Carrie’s chilling warning. Finally, the Prom Night-inspired poster features Prom Queen’s red-centric killer front and center. They’re holding a knife in front of their face with “Doors at Eight… Slaughter at Midnight!” setting the dyer tone. Films like Carrie and Prom Night defined this unique sub-genre of horror, so it’s nice to see the next generation of terror celebrating the past before Prom Queen leaves its own fatal mark on the genre.

Return to Shadyside… If You Dare!

Prom Queen is based on the 1992 Fear Street novel of the same name and is the fourth film in the franchise that will be released by Netflix. Pegged as a more teen-centric Goosebumps-like series, this film returns horror fans to Shadyside for the prom of 1988. That means it takes place between Fear Street Part Two: 1978 and Fear Street Part One: 1994. A masked killer is on the loose with its sights on this ill-fated town’s biggest night of the year. From the trailers and vintage marketing material thus far, Prom Night looks to tap into the 80s heyday of slasher films. That included Friday the 13th, The Slumber Party Massacre, A Nightmare on Elm Street and the previously mentioned Prom Night. Alongside Fowler, the film will star Ariana Greenblatt (Barbie), Ella Rubin, Fina Strazza, Suzanna Son, David Iacono, Katherine Waterston (Alien: Covenant) and Lili Taylor (The Conjuring).
