‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham 2’: Karan Johar Finally Debunks Sequel & Spin-Off Rumors!!

Karan Johar breaks silence on Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham 2 and here’s what he said!

Filmmaker Karan Johar has put an end to speculation surrounding a sequel to his cult classic Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. The 2001 family drama, which featured an ensemble never-seen-before cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor Khan, remains one of Bollywood’s most iconic films. Addressing the buzz, Johar clarified that there are no plans to revisit the story with a sequel or spin-off.

Speaking about his future projects on The Right Angle with Sonal Kalra, Season 3, produced by Gautam Thakker Films, Johar said, “I am glad that I have this platform and I am glad I am chatting with you to say that there is no Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham 2” Johar said.

He further elaborated on why he has no intention of returning to the beloved film, emphasising its emotional resonance with audiences over the years. “I would never make a K3G 2… what K3G has in abundance is nostalgia. There are generations that have grown up watching the film, for what they loved, what they didn’t, what they cried about. I am very grateful to the universe that I got to make a film that still lives on” he added. Johar also acknowledged that revisiting such a celebrated project could potentially take away from its legacy. “I would never mess with that nostalgia and the love, it has”, he stated.

For the uninitiated, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham revolves around a wealthy family torn apart by differences and reunited through love, tracing the emotional journey of relationships, values, and reconciliation across generations. The film also featured some renowned names as supporting actors which included Fardia Jalal, Sushma Seth, Alok Nath, Johnny Lever, Himani Shivpuri, Simone Singh, and even Rani Mukerji in special appearance. Over the years, the film has attained cult status for its larger-than-life storytelling, memorable soundtrack, and emotionally resonant moments, continuing to hold a special place in pop culture.
