Dan Levy, Rachel Sennott Set New Crime Comedy Series at Netflix!!

Netflix has officially greenlit a brand-new comedy series co-created by Schitt’s Creek star Dan Levy and Bottoms breakout Rachel Sennott, with Levy set to star alongside Ghosts and The Four Seasons actress Taylor Ortega and Emmy-winning legend Laurie Metcalf. The untitled project will consist of eight episodes and is expected to begin production later this year. What a mightily impressive line-up that is, goodness gracious.

The announcement was made during Netflix’s upfront presentation in New York by chief content officer Bela Bajaria, who also confirmed new seasons for The Diplomat, Bridgerton, and Love on the Spectrum.

According to the official logline from Netflix, the comedy will follow “two deeply incapable siblings (Levy and Ortega) who are blackmailed into the world of organized crime.” Yes, you read that right. Think Arrested Development meets Fargo — but with more guilt and better sweaters. And presumably no banana stand, but we can’t say that for sure.

I’m so excited to be bringing this truly chaotic family story to life with Netflix,” Levy said in a statement. “Thrilled with the team we’re building both behind the scenes and in front of the camera. Taylor Ortega is going to become a household name, and it’s been my life’s mission to get to call Laurie Metcalf ‘mother.’ Looking forward to getting to share this with everyone.”

Levy and Sennott will serve as co-creators and executive producers, with Levy also stepping into the role of showrunner — all under his Not A Real Production Company banner. The series marks the first project under his overall Netflix deal, which previously delivered his feature debut Good Grief, released earlier this year.

Who Is In The Cast of Dan Levy’s New Show?

In addition to Levy, the series boasts a stacked cast of comic talent. Ortega, a scene-stealer in recent projects like Netflix’s The Four Seasons and Ghosts, will play Levy’s equally unqualified partner-in-crime — literally and figuratively. And in a casting decision that already feels iconic, The Conners and Roseanne icon Laurie Metcalf will play the siblings’ mother, adding some Emmy-winning firepower to the dysfunctional family. The show is Levy’s first scripted TV project since the smash success of Schitt’s Creek, which he co-created with his father Eugene Levy and which swept the 2020 Emmys with nine wins, including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actor for Levy himself. No pressure then, Dan.
