‘Devil’s Mouth’: Kathryn Newton, Lana Condor to Star in New Shark Thriller!!

Kathryn Newton‘s star power is gaining strength as The Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania actress has secured another major role, this time in a new shark thriller, Devil’s Mouth. The film will see Newton battling for survival against the relentless underwater predator aptly likened to the devil. She won’t be facing the danger alone, though, as the report from Deadline reveals that To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before breakout star, Lana Condor, has also been cast. Devil’s Mouth is a high-profile collaboration between Amazon MGM, and Lionsgate, marking Newton’s second Amazon project following the well-received time-loop romance The Map of Tiny Perfect Things, which premiered on Prime Video to critical acclaim.

In what promises to be a thrilling spin on the modern shark horror hit, 47 Meters Down, Devil’s Mouth will see Newton and Condo as two college best friends whose vacation trip to Thailand takes a dangerous turn. Their underwater adventure will lead to a mishap, leaving them trapped in a submerged cave system with a relentless bull shark stalking their every move. Their situation presents a scenario where unity is crucial for survival, but instead, the pair will somehow sabotage their survival chances by engaging in a power struggle as old grudges and tensions resurface. Can they overcome their differences and find their way back to shore in one piece, or will their fractured bond lead them straight into the devil’s mouth?

The Team Behind ‘Devil’s Mouth’

The script comes from Aja Gabel and Myung Joh Wesner, two scribes with several acclaimed projects between them, including the biographical miniseries The Staircase for Gabel and the much-loved crime drama series High Potential for Wesner. Their story was first featured in the 2019 Black List before attracting attention from Jeff Wadlow, who revised their script and will also serve as director on the project.

Wadlow has had his hand in many pies, including a handful of horror projects. He’s collaborated with Jason Blum‘s Blumhouse horror on three projects, most recently the supernatural horror, Imaginary (2024). Before that, he directed and executive produced the star-studded Halloween film, The Curse of Bridge Hollow (2022). He’s also recognized for directing the superhero films Kick-Ass 2 (2013), and Bloodshot (2022) starring Vin Diesel. Wadlow will also serve as producer on Devil’s Mouth alongside Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee for Thunder Road Films, with Chelsea Kujawa representing Lionsgate and Carsten Lorenz serving as executive producer.

Newton is fast developing into a horror icon. Last year, she starred in two acclaimed horror titles, Lisa Frankenstein and Abigail, and recently booked a part alongside Samara Weaving in Ready or Not 2. Condor recently starred in Valiant One, and will next appear in Tubi‘s Worth the Wait, the action-thriller, Ballerina Overdrive, as well as the unshelved WB movie, Coyote vs. Acme.
