Vampires never cease to amuse the audiences, be it classics like Dracula, Interview with a Vampire, or the highly popular franchise The Twilight Saga or other iterations like the Blade franchise, or newer films like Renfield, Nosferatu, and the latest box office gem Sinners– all find their audience sooner than later. Adding to the long list is Kate Mara’s next film, She Kills Them, which is described as “Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Fleabag.”
Directed by Dan Clark, the romantic comedy will feature Mara as Chloe Jacobs, a 30-something woman who leads a double life: By day, she’s just another jaded New Yorker trying to figure out her personal life. And by night, she seduces and slays vampires as part of a secret government operation. Things take a turn when she meets Eric, someone she actually connects with, and her two worlds collide.
What to Expect From ‘She Kills Them’?
With an exciting premise, She Kills Them seems like the perfect story to present the romantic comedy, something we haven’t seen in a while in the subgenre. “Imagine if ‘Buffy’ grew up to become ‘Fleabag,’” said Clark, who’s best known for directing and starring in the popular BBC comedy How Not to Live Your Life. He further shed light on the tone of the upcoming film, divulging,
“While there’s action and vampires, this is ultimately a grounded, character-driven romantic comedy — think ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ with the occasional kick-ass fight sequence.”
Clark is well known for starring in and writing the British series How Not to Live Your Life. His other writing credits include A Kind of Kidnapping, The Estate Agent, Drifters, and more. Given his penchant for comedies, She Kills Them is sure to tickle the fans. Clark’s references are quite interesting in terms of having a protagonist who is as badass as Buffy and as quick-witted as Fleabag. Mara has a long list of credits, having played diverse characters like Zoe Barnes in Netflix’s political drama House of Cards, and computer analyst Shari Rothenberg in Fox’s 24 series. Her other credits include Morgan (2016), Megan Leavey, My Days of Mercy, and The Martian among many more. She’ll be next seen in features like Jean Holbrooke’s Bucking Fastards, and Imperfect Women series. No further top-line talents have been announced yet.
Currently, no release date or window has been announced for She Kills Them.
