‘Happy Gilmore 2’: New Image Finds Adam Sandler and Bad Bunny in the Netflix Sequel!! Check It Out!!

Just over two months remain until Happy Gilmore returns to the green, only this time he’ll have a new partner accompanying him. Entertainment Weekly just released a new image from the upcoming Happy Gilmore 2 as part of their Summer Preview event, and it not only highlights Adam Sandler‘s hockey player-turned-golfer in his Boston Bruins gear with a hockey stick in hand, but it also shows his loyal new caddy, Bad Bunny. The three-time Grammy winner is seen dressed up for the next iteration of the Tour Championship, watching intently as Happy shows off his technique. He’ll be by the veteran golfer’s side throughout the film as Happy looks to return to golf glory this summer.

Bad Bunny will have some big shoes to fill in Happy Gilmore 2. The first film saw the role of the titular golfer’s caddy played by the homeless man Otto, who not only accompanied Happy throughout his Tour Championship run but also became his best friend. Frequent Sandler collaborator Allen Covert is believed to be returning as Otto for the sequel, but as the teaser from March showed, the new guy is going to accompany Happy for a lot of chaos this time around. From recklessly driving golf carts to breaking clubs over his leg, he’s set to bring some fire to the competition while being a new comedic foil to Sandler.

Sandler‘s return to the golf course for Netflix has brought with it a tour’s worth of new talent alongside Bad Bunny. Upping the ante this time around is a selection of pro golfers and pop-culture icons, including Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Bryson DeChambeau, Paige Spiranac, Ethan Cutkosky, Philip Schneider, Blake Clark, MJF, Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi, John Daly, and Travis Kelce. They join a slate of returning stars including Sandler, Covert, Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald, and Ben Stiller. Also getting back in the game as co-writer Tim Herlihy, who co-wrote the screenplay with Sandler, while Kyle Newacheck has taken the reins as director this time around.

‘Happy Gilmore 2’ Will Pay Tribute to One of the Original’s Biggest Stars

Although Happy Gilmore 2‘s vaunted cast, complete with new and returning faces alike, will get their time to shine, viewers will also feel the presence of a character and cast member who has since passed. In the original Happy Gilmore, Happy wouldn’t have been able to improve his short game and overcome Shooter McGavin (McDonald) without the help of former pro-golfer Chubbs Peterson, played by Carl Weathers. With Weathers dying last year at the age of 76, Newacheck spoke to us for Collider‘s Exclusive Preview series about how the sequel pays homage to Happy’s iconic mentor and the man who brought him to life. “You can’t make Happy Gilmore without Chubbs Peterson, it doesn’t exist,” he said. “You can be assured his spirit is throughout the film. He may not be by Happy’s side anymore, but he’s on his shoulder.”

Happy Gilmore 2 premieres on July 25, 2025. Check out the new image from Entertainment Weekly above.
