Prime Video‘s biggest leading man has found his next big-screen project. Reacher star Alan Ritchson is set to star in a new Jerry Bruckheimer action-adventure film. The Hollywood Reporter has the news that Fortune, a film penned by the writers of A Minecraft Movie, has been acquired by Skydance.
Fortune will be penned by Neil Widener and Gavin James, and adapted from their short story; their Minecraft movie has already grossed $930 million USD at the global box office. So far, plot details are being kept under wraps, but it is being described as a cross between Raiders of the Lost Ark and Memento, suggesting a globe-trotting treasure hunt with an amnesiac twist. It will be the second time Ritchson has graced the screen in a film produced by Hollywood colossus Bruckheimer: he was part of the ensemble cast of Guy Ritchie‘s World War II romp The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare last year. Skydance acquired the film after a competitive bidding process, and is currently in negotiations to finalize the deal.
What Else Is Alan Ritchson Working On?
The towering Ritchson has made it big in recent years, thanks to his lead role as wandering man-mountain Jack Reacher in Prime Video‘s popular streaming adaptation of author Lee Child‘s novels. Three seasons of the series have already debuted on the streamer, and a fourth season is in the works; a spin-off centering around supporting character Frances Neagley (Maria Sten) is also in production, with Ritchson set to guest star. He also has a number of film projects on the go: set for release this year is the Christmas actioner The Man With the Bag, which will co-star Arnold Schwarzenegger as Santa Claus. Also in the works are the action comedy Playdate, with Kevin James; the action film Motor City, with Shailene Woodley; the sci-fi thriller War Machine, with Dennis Quaid; the thriller Runner, with Owen Wilson; and the romantic Nicholas Sparks adaptation Counting Miracles.
A Hollywood mega-producer since first hitting it big with 1983’s Flashdance, Bruckheimer shows no sign of slowing down. This summer, he’s racing back into theaters with F1, the Brad Pitt-driven Formula One pic that’s the latest blockbuster from Top Gun: Maverick‘s Joseph Kosinski. He also continues to be a major player on TV, with Fire Country getting a spin-off this fall in the form of Sheriff Country.
Fortune is in development; no director, additional casting, or release date has yet been announced.
