While the rest of the world was combating the Sunday scaries, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn was busy releasing a new look at one of the year’s most anticipated projects. Gunn dropped a new sizzle reel for Peacemaker Season 2 full of new behind-the-scenes footage of the hit DCU show, which will return to Max on August 21. Peacemaker Season 2 will see WWE legend John Cena reprise his role as Christopher Smith for the third time, and also return series veterans such as Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Jennifer Holland as Agent Emilia Harcourt, Steve Agee as John Economos, and Freddie Stroma as Vigilante. The sizzle reel also includes footage of a mysterious new villain who will debut in the series, as well as Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr.
Fans have become increasingly accustomed to longer waits between seasons of TV nowadays, but Peacemaker Season 2 has a reasonably acceptable excuse as to why it’s taken three years for the show to return. The first season of Peacemaker was released during a complicated time in DC‘s history, and it was later that same year that it was announced Gunn was taking over DC, along with Peter Safran. This spurred plenty of changes as the duo worked to wash out the old regime, mostly what few remaining pieces were left behind of Zack Snyder’s DCEU. It took a few years to settle on what was going to make the jump to the new universe and what wasn’t, but fans were grateful when Gunn confirmed that Peacemaker would get a second season that will be part of the new DC universe.
‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Is Bringing Back a ‘Suicide Squad’ Veteran
New images from Peacemaker Season 2 were released last week, and it confirmed that a Suicide Squad star was going to make his DCU debut in the show. Michael Rooker, who has also worked with James Gunn on his Guardians of the Galaxy movies as Yondu, will feature in Peacemaker Season 2, but not as Savant (the character he plays in Gunn’s 2021 superhero film). Rooker will star as Red St. Wild in Peacemaker Season 2, a hunter whose primary goal is to hunt Eagly (Dee Bradley Baker), Christopher Smith’s winged companion.
