‘The Devils’: James Cameron to Write Movie Based on Joe Abercrombie Novel!!

The third Avatar movie will light the world on fire and leave it in ash later this year, and writer/director James Cameron has officially found something else to sink his creative claws into. Cameron took to his personal social media, including Threads, Instagram, and Twitter, to announce that his production company, Lightstorm, has purchased Joe Abercrombie’s latest book, The Devils, and that a feature adaptation of the novel is in the works. Cameron is co-writing the script with Abercrombie, but further details about the project are being kept under wraps. The Devils was published on May 6 and quickly rose to #1 on The Sunday Times Bestseller list in the UK, and it also recently entered the top five on the NYT Bestseller list. Cameron shared his description of Abercrombie’s novel in the statement which can be found below.

It’s shaping up to be a big year for Cameron, who will release the third installment in his hit sci-fi franchise, Avatar: Fire and Ash. The film has been slated for release on December 19 later this year, and it will follow Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) as they grapple with Neyteyam’s (Jamie Flatters) death in Avatar: The Way of Water. The threequel will also see the return of Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang), who is back to hunt Jake Sully once more after being defeated by him for the second time. Early marketing material for the film teases a much darker side of Pandora coming in the third installment, which will come as a bit of a shock to fans who are used to the colorful beauty of Pandora displayed in the first two films.

What Did James Cameron Direct Before ‘Avatar’?

It’s been nearly 30 years since James Cameron directed a non-Avatar feature film, with his last non-Pandoran work coming on Titanic, the 1997 colossal hit that is still one of the highest-grossing movies of all time. Cameron made his directorial debut in 1982 with Piranha II: The Spawning, but it wasn’t until a few years later that he came flying out of the gates with two of the best sci-fi movies ever. Cameron directed The Terminator in 1984 before following it up with Aliens in 1986, and he even helmed Terminator 2: Judgment Day six years later. He has been awarded three Oscars in his career, all for his work on Titanic.

Few details are known about Cameron and Abercrombie’s adaptation of The Devils at this time.
