At this point in the game, Norman Reedus’ Daryl Dixon has survived a lot. The beloved character from The Walking Dead universe has seen more things than he’d like to see while living in the post-apocalyptic world, and has been forced to make some incredibly difficult decisions along the way. As we begin to round out the turn to the starting line for the kick-off of the third season of his own spin-off show, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, a newly released teaser reveals that the character might just be getting to the end of his rope with all of this life-risking adventure.

New foes await Daryl (Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride) in the darkness of night, as a group of humans wearing the skulls of animals, gather in the woods on horseback, illuminating their way with torches. Daryl can be heard saying “It’s not so great out there in the world,” before the action breaks out. We’ve got motorcycle riders, we’ve got guns, and we’ve also got a new face in the form of Stephen Merchant who adds his name to the show’s ensemble.

For those who have been paying attention to the teasers paving the way for Daryl Dixon’s Season 3 arrival, you’ll notice that they seem to be in conversation with one another. Last week’s featured a monologue given by McBride’s Carol, as she spoke to her companion about survival and — eventually — emerging back into the world. The comments made by Reedus’ character in the latest sneak peek appear to be responding to his longtime friend’s sentiments, proving him to not be quite as eager to get back to the reality they left behind — if such a thing even exists anymore.

Where Are Daryl and Carol Headed?

Although their full intention was to leave France behind after the events of the last season and be on their way back across the Atlantic to America, Season 3 will see the pair make a pitstop by way of Spain. It’s here that they’ll tussle with new villains and hit it off with fresh faces as they continue to push onward together. The good news is that McBride’s return as Carol during the second season of Daryl Dixon wasn’t just a one-off appearance and that she will continue to reprise her role as the beloved OG member of The Walking Dead family.

When The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon was first announced a few years back, McBride was signed on from the start, but eventually backed out for some well-deserved time away. The fandom had an incredibly difficult time letting her go — especially after being told that she was part of the production — so, when it was revealed that Season 2 would center around her quest to reunite with Daryl, the fandom was beyond thrilled. Now, we get to see them carry on together in their next chapter when the title returns this fall.
