‘Mass Effect’: Prime Video Series Sets ‘Star Trek Beyond’ Writer as Showrunner!!

The Mass Effect television series is one step closer to becoming a reality. Amazon MGM Studios has recruited Doug Jung to serve as the showrunner for the highly-anticipated adaptation of the popular video game series. The creative mind that wrote Star Trek Beyond and The Cloverfield Paradox will allow audiences to dive deep into a world where machines known as the Reapers will endanger every human left alive. The studio has been working on the project for a very long time, and hiring Jung is a major step towards bringing the action of Mass Effect to the screen.

Doug Jung was selected to work as the showrunner for the upcoming Mass Effect television series after working within the science fiction genre for years. In The Cloverfield Paradox, the artist expanded on the story of a world that desperately needed a new energy source. Starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw and David Oyelowo, the movie presented the characters with the risk of opening up pathways to parallel universes. The action, drama and twists seen in The Cloverfield paradox turn Jung into an adequate choice to shape the highly-anticipated Mass Effect television series.

The first Mass Effect video game was released in 2007, back when the Marvel Cinematic Universe hadn’t even started yet. The game introduced Commander Shepard (voiced by Mark Meer or Jennifer Hale), the hero capable of fighting off threats while the galaxy tries to survive under the control of the Citadel Council. It’s too early to determine who will be the protagonist of the upcoming Mass Effect television series.

Video Game Adaptations on the Rise

The fact that the Mass Effect television series has become a priority for Amazon MGM Studios shouldn’t come as a surprise. This won’t be the first video game adaptation the company will attempt to turn into a success. The Fallout television series has only grown in popularity for Prime Video. The second installment of that story will be released later this year, with Ella Purnell and Walton Goggins returning to their acclaimed roles.

Elsewhere in the industry, video game adaptations continue to take over the big screen. The Super Mario Bros. Movie managed to earn more than $1 billion at the global box office for both Illumination and Universal Pictures. This year alone, A Minecraft Movie blew up expectations when it took over the big screen. Taking into account how audiences are constantly looking for a new video game adaptation to enjoy, Amazon MGM could have a massive success in their hands in the form of the Mass Effect adaptation.

A release date for the Mass Effect television series hasn’t been set by Amazon MGM Studios.
