The cast of the upcoming The Adventures of Cliff Booth — the surprise sequel to Quentin Tarantino‘s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood — just got a surprising update. Yahya Abdul Mateen II, known for his villainous role as Black Manta in the Aquaman franchise and set to make his MCU debut in Marvel‘s Wonder Man, will be seen in the story that will carry on the legacy of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Details surrounding the character the star will be playing haven’t been revealed. Some sources say that Abdul-Mateen II could be stepping into a role similar to what football player and actor Jim Brown established over the course of his career.
The Adventures of Cliff Booth remains a complete mystery. Quentin Tarantino allowed Brad Pitt to play the titular character in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, with the F1 actor portraying a relatively successful stuntman who didn’t care much about what happened on or off the set. However, the upcoming movie won’t be directed by Tarantino. After establishing the world in which the events of this follow-up will take place, the director will be focused on the development of his tenth and final movie.
Netflix has selected David Fincher to direct The Adventures of Cliff Booth. Before he was hired to continue the legacy of Tarantino‘s latest effort, the filmmaker has worked extensively with the streaming platform thanks to the development of House of Cards and Love, Death & Robots. The long-standing working relationship between the artist and the company will continue thanks to the follow-up that promises to bring the same amount of action, twists, and humor as its predecessor.
The Return of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II let the entertainment industry know that he was here to stay thanks to his breakout performance in Aquaman. The superhero story directed by James Wan marked the first time the actor was involved with a project that earned more than $1 billion at the global box office. Abdul-Mateen II reprised the role in the recent Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. His presence in the DC Extended Universe allowed the performer to move towards different projects.
Wonder Man will be a television series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that will premiere on Disney+ later this year. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will star as the titular character in the highly-anticipated project that will entertain fans before Avengers: Doomsday hits the big screen next year. Abdul-Mateen II is also known for his roles in Michael Bay‘s Ambulance and Candy Man. One of the most beloved actors from the Aquaman movies will steal the spotlight once again in the highly-anticipated follow-up to Once Upon a Time in…Hollywood.
A release date for The Adventures of Cliff Booth hasn’t been set by Netflix.
