‘Hit Squad’: Hanna-Barbera & Warner Bros. Are Working on a New Animated Series!!

Warner Bros. Animation and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe are taking Gerry Anderson‘s legacy to an entirely different level. The companies have announced that they will be working on a Hit Squad animated series. The espionage action-comedy will take audiences through an international adventure featuring a team of talented spies. The heroes of this story will battle against hidden foes and dangerous villains. The title is being described as a “next generation Supermarionation for an adult audience.”

Jamie Anderson, Darren Walsh, and Russel McLean have been recruited as producers for the upcoming Hit Squad animated series. Before he was hired to work on the project that would introduce a new generation of fans to the work of Gerry Anderson, Darren Walsh was involved with the development of titles such as Lego City Adventures and Angry Kid. The artist’s extensive record when it comes to working in animation departments makes him a wonderful addition to the team behind Hit Squad.

Gerry Anderson changed the entertainment industry with his use of marionette puppets containing electric moving parts. Thunderbirds was the series that allowed the artist to make a statement in front of the entire world. The show followed International Rescue and the Tracy family, showing how they constantly utilized intelligent gadgets to save humanity. Years before Back to the Future and the modern incarnation of Doctor Who delighted audiences with visions of a bright future, the Thunderbirds were taking people to a world beyond their imagination.

What’s Next for Warner Bros. Animation?

Hit Squad will allow Warner Bros. Animation to take the legacy of Gerry Anderson and present it with a new spin. Before the studio has time to dig deep into the upcoming action-comedy, the company will be focusing on a wide variety of projects that will entertain viewers over the next couple of years. A sixth season of Harley Quinn is currently in development at the studio. What was supposed to be a small series based on the pages of DC Comics has turned out to be a major hit for Warner Bros. Animation.

After releasing this year’s Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League, the company will develop an animated direct-to-video movie based on the concept of Aztec Batman at some point in the future. While these projects come to fruition, Warner Bros. Animation and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe will be hard at work with the Hit Squad and their upcoming adventures. The work of Gerry Anderson has the opportunity to innovate the animation genre once again.

A release date for Hit Squad hasn’t been announced.
